Watching Live Earth in HD on Windows Media Center

Today, across the world, Live Earth is taking place - a huge concert for “a climate in crisis”. This event is bringing together 2 billion people across the world with performances by over 150 musicians and presented by MSN. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to any of the live concerts myself but I have the next best thing to being there in person. Connected to a 42-inch LG HDTV (which is Energy Star compliant) is a Digital Cable Card Home Entertainment PC from Velocity Micro. Companies such as Velocity Micro, HP, and others are beginning to ship PC’s capable of HDTV with Windows Vista using Windows Media Center. These PC’s come with a special HD tuner with a slot for a special card called a CableCard. These CableCards enable HD capabilities through your digital cable service and are available through your digital cable providers (for example I received my CableCard from Comcast).

Through my digital cable package I have with Comcast, I get several HD channels that work wonderfully with my Digital Cable Card PC and Windows Vista. Today, UHD - the Universal HD channel - is broadcasting

World Travel Awards Now on YouTube - New channel opened on YouTube

The popular online video sharing service YouTube is now offering one more channel after the parent company Google signed a deal to support the World Travel Awards campaign. The new page
offers several clips provided by the tourism industry and according to Travel Guides, it already recorded more than 1000 views. This is not the first time when YouTube signs partnerships in order to bring new content to the official page but every time, the online video sharing service tries to make something different and attract another segment of users.

“We are pleased to have our own channel on the number one video sharing site in the world. This is a very positive extension of our successful relationship with cutting edge media,” Manon Han, Vice President of World Travel Awards, said according to Travel Guides. “The YouTube platform will allow nominees and winners to subscribe to the World Travel Awards channel, so that each time we post new videos of our regional and global gala ceremonies and award winners, our subscribers can watch the best that the travel industry has to offer on YouTube.”

In the past, YouTube…

10 Things - Finding photos in Photo Gallery

On this most auspicious of days — assuming you’re into that sort of thing — I figured I’d continue the 10 Things You Didn’t Know series by highlighting what I think is one of the most universally applicable and beneficial developments in Windows Vista:  the addition of Photo Gallery.  Millions of digital cameras (~100M, to be precise) are sold annually and if you have a cell phone, you likely have a camera in it as well.  All the images we take each year require a place to store them and then find them when needed.

Enter Windows Vista Photo Gallery.  Not only does Photo Gallery make it a lot simpler to manage your photos, but the great thing is that all users can take advantage of Photo Gallery, as it’s included in all versions of Windows Vista.  In addition to automatically displaying pictures and videos stored in the Pictures folder on your computer, you can also easily add and remove folders to the contents of Photo Gallery by simply dragging them to (or deleting them from) Photo Gallery’s navigation pane on its left-hand side.  If you only want to add a couple of photos rather than
