iPhone ‘Hello World’ Application

After many, many hours of intense work from “Nightwatch”, the first independent “Hello World”* application has been compiled and launched on the iPhone. This was made possible using the “ARM/Mach-O Toolchain”, Nightwatch’s “special project”, that he has been working on so carefully over the past few weeks. Certain parts of the toolchain (such as the assembler) are being refined and tested and these will be released as soon as possible.

Windows Seven: Think 2010 - All About Microsoft

From All About Microsoft

Mary Jo Foley gives us some juicy details on the next client release of Windows coming out of Microsoft in the near or not so near (depending on who ask) future.

"Windows Seven now has an official ship target — 2010.

At Microsoft’s Global Exchange (MGX) annual sales conference in Orlando this week, Microsoft shared a bit more — albeit at a high level — on Windows Seven, according to a copy of a slide deck I saw that was distributed to the field sales force during the conference. MJ also revealed more information on proposed features and supported processor architectures - don’t throw those x86 machines out just yet. ;)

Still Waiting

During the Easter break I revealed to you that I would be obtaining the parts to assemble a new PC, which was mentioned during this post. Well, I’ve ordered all of the parts now. When the parts arrive, the PC itself will have the following rough specifications:
  • Pentium 4 3.4Ghz CPU
  • 2048MB DDR-2 533MHz RAM
  • 512MB nVidia (can’t remember chipset name) PCI-Express Graphics
  • 250GB S-ATA Hard Disk Drive
  • DVD ReWriter Drive
  • Case with a good airflow and a 400W PSU.
  • Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

Of course, this all sounds quite nice (except the CPU possibly), but I ordered the RAM, Case, DVD ReWriter and Graphics card from the same place that I ordered the motherboard from. The order, which was placed on the 30th June, has not materialised yet. I sent the company an e-mail on Monday and the reason is that the RAM is out of stock. Now, if you read the linked Blog article, you’ll know that this is the same problem that I had before.

I’m beginning to wonder if it is worth using this company again. I don’t know how they do their stock control because it’s clearly not up to the task. Since shipments from overseas take
