Increase Exchange 2003 Maximum Message Store Size

I have gotten the call more than once. A frantic call…that an Exchange server was no longer running. When I get in front of the server I see that the server store will not mount….I usually find out the store has run into a size limit.

The first thing I check is the size of the message store. Exchange has a limit (What used to be a hard limit) of 16 GB.

There was a temporary fix that would allow the store to exceed 16 GB, and work up to 18 GB. Why was it temporary? Because if you wanted to go past the 18 GB limit it was time to buy the $Enterprise$ edition.

Sure there were options. One thing you could do was defrag the store. Usually this would win you a few megabytes. The other solution was to get users to clear out their mailboxes. Considering the price of the Enterprise edition, this was the usual course of action.

Finally with Exchange SP2 Microsoft increased the limit to 75 GB. The trouble is this is not turned on by default. By installing SP2 you only increase the current maximum to 18GB…

How to Download the Localized Version of Windows Vista Hardware Assessment 2.1?

Hello Windows Vista Team Blog readers,

We’ve heard that some of you are very interested in getting the localized version of the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment 2.1 but was not sure how the download process works for this globalized integrated download. To clarify, the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment 2.1 is available in any of the SEVEN languages from a single download (not just English). That includes North American English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.  No more hunting around for 2 different localized versions of the download. This is especially convenient for those of you who are multi-lingual in US, Europe and Latin America!!

Here’s how the download and installation process work:

  1. Download the globalized integrated version of the tool here (please ignore the fact the language field says English, trust me, it has all 7 localizations in it :-) ):  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83115
  2. Decide on which language you want the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment to operate in (e.g. Japanese)
  3. Install this globalized integrated download on a computer with the matching localized operating system (i.e. Japanese version of the 32-bit Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003 R2 OS)
  4. Double-click the download and complete the installation process
  5. When you are ready to use Windows Vista Hardware Assessment

Domain Name Whois Registration Privacy

http://live.pirillo.com - Clint asks “Is it a good investment to block personal info from a whois lookup to see that I own the site. We tell our kids how dangerous it is to put personal info out there; does it apply to adults? My name, phone number and home address is out there for the world to see. What is safe to put out there? I just dont know what content to include, and what to omit.”
