Visiting the Windows Consumer Experience Space in New York City

In New York City this week, Microsoft has invited over 200 members of the press to visit the Windows Consumer Experience Space at Peter White Studios. There, they will get hands on demos of scenarios that both Windows Vista and Windows Live together enable for consumers. The scenarios at the Windows Consumer Experience Space include demos of the Windows Live apps (such as Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Photo Gallery), gaming on Windows Vista, and Windows Media Center and its home entertainment capabilities.

Windows Senior Product Manager Craig Cincotta gives us a tour of the Windows Consumer Experience Space where folks will come through for their demos:

One of the scenarios being demoed is the ability to create panoramic shots in Windows Live Photo Gallery. I absolutely love this feature and decided to go down to Times Square and take a few shots to create a panoramic view of Times Square during both during the evening and during the day. It is an amazing experience standing at Times Square especially at night with all the neon signs

EXECUTE permission denied on object ’sp_sdidebug’, database ‘master’, owner ‘dbo’.

I got this error from one of my ASP.NET web services when I tried to fetch some data from a remote database. I tried searching online for a possible fix to this issue but found none to be convincing and so thought of publishing the solution that resolved the issue.

Please note that this solution may only be effective if you are debugging your ASP.NET page/web service and are manually attaching the worker process.

1. Attach to the worker process.

2. With the aspnet_wp.exe highlighted hit the “Select…” button at the top right hand side.

You will get the “Select Code Type” dialog with the “Automatically determine the type of code to debug” selected. Now for ASP.NET to use the “Managed” code type by checking the “Managed” checkbox.

Try it again and it should work without the “EXECUTE permission denied on object ’sp_sdidebug’, database ‘master’, owner ‘dbo’.” error.

Hope it helps. Let me know of any issues or alternate solutions in comments.

Remaining Ultimate Extra Language Packs Released

We are pleased to announce the release of the remaining 19 languages packs for Windows Vista Ultimate. This Ultimate Extras release brings the total number of language packs for use with Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) to 35. Windows Vista Ultimate enables users install multiple languages on their system and quickly switch between them by associating a system language with their login name.

MUI is particularly useful in multilingual homes where multiple people use a single computer and choose different languages for their primary use. People who wish to learn a new language will also find MUI to be a particularly useful feature. We are aware of a very large number of customers who have purchased Ultimate for this feature specifically and are gratified that these customers can now realize the full benefit of Windows Vista Ultimate. Device driver updates causing Vista to deactivate

After weeks of gruelling troubleshooting, I’ve finally had it confirmed by Microsoft Australia and USA something as small as swapping the video card or updating a device driver can trigger a total Vista deactivation.

Put simply, your copy of Windows will stop working with very little notice (three days) and your PC will go into “reduced functionality” mode, where you can’t do anything but use the web browser for half an hour.

You’ll then need to reapply to Microsoft to get a new activation code. (more…)
