Vista SP1 Beta Install Fiesta, politeness of Microsoft

Microsoft is hard at effort beating away at the first service pack for Windows Vista.

But at the equal time the Redmond company is test driving the refresh in order to estimate the evolution of development milestone releases in respect to the quality standard that will recommend SP1 for the final open. Just the past week, a preview of the first release Candidate of Vista SP1 went to just about 15,000 testers. Still, Microsoft is also hosting on-location events focused around Vista SP1.

With just 88 million copies of Vista shipped to channel partners global, White felt the need to clarify SP1. “What is Windows Vista SP1? Windows Vista SP1 is an update to Windows Vista that addresses feedback from our clientele. In addition to formerly released updates, SP1 will contain changes inattentive on addressing specific reliability and performance issues, sustaining new types of hardware, and adding support for numerous emerging standards. SP1 also addresses some management, deployment and support challenges”, he stated.

Last month, Microsoft was the host of a Windows Vista SP1 Beta Install fair in Redmond. At the opening of December, the company is doing a recur of the event, but this time at the Silicon Valley property. If you are in the area, and want to try Vista SP1 first hand directly from Microsoft, then all you have to do is send an email at vsp1reg@microsoft.com in order to register for the Windows Vista Install Fair. All participants will pace away with a copy of Office 2007.

“The goals of the Install Fair are to: upgrade your system that is already running Windows Vista with unusual (to MS) applications, configurations and devices to pre-release (Beta) version of Windows Vista SP1; acquire priceless feedback about the Windows Vista SP1 Beta Windows Update and standalone install knowledge from the broader community; and send attendees away with a functional Windows Vista SP1 Beta operating system”, White added.

Connect to a wireless network in Windows Vista

Connecting to a wireless network is fairly easy in Windows Vista much easier than Windows XP but there maybe a bit confusion as Vista has a different naming convention than XP that we got so used to.

A cool thing in Windows Vista is that you can detect a non-broadcasting wireless network or a hidden SSID and you can configure it to be your preferred network. Cool huh… right.

First of all, turn on the wireless adapter…

  • On the Start Orb -> click on “Connect To”
  • A window will pop up and show all available connections (dial-up, VPN and wireless)
  • Pick wireless connection -> click the “Connect”
  • If you’re trying to connect to a security-enabled network, well that would require authentication (so I assume you have a network key which is either WEP or a WPA or a WPA2 encryption key)
  • Now when all info are enterd and done correctly it will show up as connected
  • Also you can modify the connection settings of the wireless network :
  • right click on the connected wireless network and choose “Properties”

For a more secure network on your home network it’s better to Use WPA to secure your Wi-Fi.

The A-Team strikes Zegoe

LOLCat cease and desist

As you all know, this blog is only a cover-up for a very large Chinese piracy operation which is why it is the latest target of the Microsoft A-Team. Because this website has such wide reach and implications, it is an obvious target compared to the more amateurish activities such as factory-based software counterfeiting operations in South East Asia.

Today, I received a cease and desist letter from Seed IP Law Group PLLC acting on behalf of the Microsoft Corporation in regards to one of Microsoft®’s most cherished intellectual properties, Zegoe®. Filled “LOLs”, “OMGs” and smiley faces (they copy & pasted all the user comments), the document demanded the “immediate cease and desist of advertising, promoting, and assisting the unauthorized distribution of Microsoft®’s ZEGOE® font software”. If I fail to comply I risk becoming “accountable for additional damages to Microsoft®”. Since I don’t really want to risk national security if Zegoe® falls into the hands of terrorist - who knows what destructive yet beautifully readable weapons of mass destruction® they could create, I had no choice than to comply, thus I have removed all the links.

However as a precaution for future legal implications, I ask everyone including myself to obfuscate any references to legally sensitive material in LOLCat speak. For example if you need to express the need for a particular ZIP file, instead of “please send file to this@email.com”, you would say “DO WANT. Plez send bucket to this@email.com kthxbai”. Besides making court hearings (if it should arise) entirely hilarious - “I plead I R not cheezburglar”, it also acts as a deterrent for any cat-hating lawyers.

Finally, I have consulted with my lawyer, albeit imaginary but well practiced, and we intend to sue Microsoft back for murder to the second degree of my hyperlinks. We suspect the murder may be racially motivated.

Microsoft, Windows, Zune, Zegoe, A-Team and the Zune logo are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States, other countries, or pretty much anywhere where people exists really. Weapons of mass destruction is a trademark of the United States Government in the United States, duh.
