SystemRestore is set to delete restore points after roughly 136 years

Normally Windows uses up to 15 percent of a drive’s available space to save restore points. In XP, the option to change this figure was configurable from the System Restore tab of the System Properties dialog box. But sadly this option is no longer offered in Vista.

But you can do so as follows :
Open regedit and go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\
SystemRestore\Cfg Double-click the DiskPercent.
The default is f (in hexadecimal) which is 15 in decimal. For making it say 10% type ‘a’

Now again, how frequently you’d like to have your SystemRestore points auto-created can also b configured as follows :
Open regedit and go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore
You can change the value RPGlobalInterval from its default setting of 86,400 seconds (24 hours) to, say, 43200 (a8c0) if u want it created every 12 hrs.
As and how your new restore points get created, the older ones get deleted due to the available space constraint, on a FIFO or “First In First Out” basis.
By default, in Vista, SystemRestore is set to delete restore points after roughly 4,294,967,295 seconds or 136 years, which was a mere 90 days in XP ! The idea apparently, is to delete them…

Windows Vista Activation Problems

Windows Vista has had everything but an easy ride since it hit the shelves in January 2007. The operating system was plagued by a luxuriant variety of problems from hardware and software incompatibilities to lack of support and poor performance and reliability. And in this context, Vista has also taken the users out for a ride, making every speed bump count, as Microsoft was applauding the evolved user experience delivered by its latest Windows client. Well, one of the most overlooked aspects among the vast volume of problems associated with Vista are the issues faced by end users when attempting to activate the operating system.

“Activation, also known as Microsoft Product Activation or Windows Product Activation, is an anti-piracy technology designed to verify that Microsoft software products are legitimately licensed. Activation works by verifying that the product key the 25-character code located on your Certificate of Authenticity (usually affixed to your computer) or proof of license label (usually affixed to the installation disc case) is authentic and is not in use on more personal computers than are permitted by the software license”, reads a fragment of the Windows Vista Activation FAQ. How to Remain Secure on Cyber Monday

With Cyber Monday almost here, it’s very important to equip your computer with powerful and well-developed technologies which would be able to defend you and keep your data secure during the entire holiday shopping season. Today, the Zone Alarm developers, Check Point Software Technologies, offered several pieces of advice on how to remain secure and buy products online without any threat.

For those of you who don’t know what Cyber Monday is, it marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. This day is usually the best time for shopping because most merchants launch special offers and prices for a wide category of products, all of them accessible via the Internet. Because millions of consumers will go online for shopping, some bad-intended persons a.k.a. attackers, phishers, scammers, hackers (you can call them however you want) will surely attempt to steal your money, products or even financial information.
