Archive e-mails

Archive e-mails with other electronic documents

File all electronic documents including e-mails for a project in one place after the project is completed

When a project is complete, you may want to file all electronic documents for the project away in one place (most probably zipped up to save space)

You can export all e-mails for a project easily into a separate PST file if you have been using the Project based e-mail filing system outlined in this book.

1. Click File-Import & Export.

2. Choose Export to a file and click Next.

3. Choose Personal Folder File (PST) and click Next.

4. Use the next screen to select the folder that contains your project e-mails.

5. Tick Include Subfolder if appropriate.

6. Click Next.

7. Click the Browse button to select a folder and enter a NEW filename. This is the file in which your e-mails for this project will be saved.

8. Click Finish.

Even after exporting e-mails, I prefer to keep the e-mails in Outlook as well. However I separate my completed projects from active projects.

To do this I have a separate top level folder called Completed Projects. When a project is completed I drag its Project folder out of the Active Project folder and into the Completed Projects folder

Vista SP1 is Here!

Finally Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is here and is available for download! Yey!

Go to Microsoft Download Center : for the 32-bit (435MB) and 64-bit (727MB) versions, and/or via Windows Update.

If You want to get ready and prepped up before installing SP1 check out my previous post : Get Ready For Vista Sp1. But don’t worry the updates won’t be installed automatically on your system, so no need to get a flux about it. Check out the possible reason for this on Microsoft’s Knowledge Base Article (KB948343).

For some insane reason that something bad happens, Microsoft has a free tech support to get you up and running again.

Have Fun, and good luck folks! I’m on my way to Updating… details later…

Arthur C. Clarke dies at 90

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Arthur C. Clarke, a visionary science fiction writer who won worldwide acclaim with more than 100 books on space, science and the future, died Wednesday in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, an aide said. He was 90.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Clarke said he did not regret never having followed his novels into space, adding that he had arranged to have DNA from strands of his hair sent into orbit. “One day, some super civilization may encounter this relic from the vanished species and I may exist in another time,” he told AP.

Along with his DNA sample, Clarke enclosed a note with a brief handwritten wish addressed to that far-flung future: “Fare well, my clone.”

Windows Vista SP1 Released for Download

Today, you can now download Windows Vista SP1 via Windows Update. For those of you eager to receive the benefits of Windows Vista SP1 - you can now do so! We've seen quite a bit of questions in our comments so we want to communicate as much as possible surrounding Windows Vista SP1 and today's release to Windows Update as we can.

For those of you happy to wait - sit tight because SP1 will start downloading to PCs automatically beginning in mid-April (Remember, this happens only if you have your Windows Update configured to automatically download updates and SP1 will automatically download but not automatically install). But if you want to get the benefit of a year's worth of improvements right now, go check Windows Update today...(Hit the Start Menu, All Programs, and select Windows Update).

If in running Windows Update you do not see Windows Vista SP1 listed, there are a number of good reasons for this (Eight in fact, see the whole list). Below are a few of the most common reasons why you might not see SP1 on Windows Update:

You have not yet installed all the prerequisite packages you need for Windows Vista SP1. To install them, visit the Windows Update control panel and click on "check for updates."

  • You have a pre-release version of SP1 and need to uninstall it before installing SP1
  • You already have it. To determine if you already have SP1 installed, Open the Start Menu, right click on Computer and left click on Properties.
  • We released SP1 in these 5 languages: English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese. If you have any other language installed, SP1 will not yet be offered to you. (You might not even know if you have an additional language installed! Check the Language control panel to see what languages you have installed)
  • Back in February we announced that we'd be using Windows Update to help make the update as seamless as possible for our users. Windows Update will detect drivers that we know may be problematic when updating to SP1 and will not offer the service pack until an update has been installed.
Here are links to the ’standalone’ downloads, which include everything you need to upgrade to SP1: Windows Update option would be less than 100MB

Adobe Bringing Flash to the iPhone

Adobe made comments today that they will be delivering a Flash client for the iPhone. According to Adobe’s Chief Executive Shantanu Narayen, Adobe has downloaded the iPhone SDK and is planning on building a Flash Player for the iPhone and distributing it via Apple’s iTunes App store.
“We believe Flash is synonymous with the Internet experience, and we are committed to bringing Flash to the iPhone,” Narayen said. “We have evaluated (the software developer tools) and we think we can develop an iPhone Flash player ourselves.”

The news comes a few weeks after Apple’s Steve Jobs stated his reasons why Flash is not available for the iPhone. Jobs claimed that Flash Lite for mobile was not full featured enough, while the full version of Flash would not run well on the iPhone. Other reports have claimed the core issue preventing the release of Flash for iPhone is a licensing negotiation between Adobe and Apple over the iPhone’s PDF renderer.

It’s not clear how exactly Adobe would bring Flash to the iPhone, as there are several restrictions in the iPhone SDK that could prevent its release.
