Adding the RC1 Integration Components to WinPE 2.0

Mike Sterling just made a triumphant return to blogging by posting an article on how to add the RC1 ICs to WinPE.  Check it out here.  Keep in mind, though, that this only works for WinPE 2.0, which is the WinPE that is based on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

As for my triumphant return to blogging, I'll be back next week with some updates to old posts and new posts as well.  In the mean time, I'm going to go back to playing GTA4.

Windows UI Taskforce: your help wanted

Most of us who use Windows Vista have probably come across a couple of user-interface quirks during our times - some of which irritate you more than others, some are more obvious than others. With the development of Windows 7 speeding full-steam ahead, I thought this might be an opportunity as good as ever to make these problems known to Microsoft and hopefully get them all resolved.

Instead of going at it alone, I thought this is the perfect opportunity to harness the wisdom of the crowd. Therefore I’m asking you to submit any UI quirks you know of in Vista and I’ll help compile a list of them together, including but not limited to legacy icons, legacy styles and malformed layouts. Include with it a brief description of the problem (and possible alternative if appropriate).

I can’t promise you that all bugs will be fixed but I will push them to someone at Microsoft who has been said to “get things done”. Without a further ado, I’ll kick it off with a couple of examples.

1. Add Fonts

Problem: Generally outdated. Uses Windows 3.1-era folder views. Cannot select individual font file - lists

Make Sure your Hard Drive is Detected

Most computers today are easier to configure. Unlike in the olden days, the need to go into the BIOS to be able to make sure that all peripherals are properly detected is no longer a common practice. Computer peripherals today are mostly plug and play thus leaving lesser rooms for potential need to manually override conflicts as far as the hardware phase is concerned.

Hard disks come in different sizes. Some owners even install more than one hard drive, making one the master drive and the other a slave drive. This is to make sure that they have enough space to save large files such as videos and music files which can really fill up your hard disk in a hurry. You just have to assign them in the right order so that they can both be detected automatically.

Although you may feel comfortable with the fact that you can totally let the configuration do everything for you, you should also take the liberty of checking if they are detected. Sometimes, there will be jumpers on the hard disk you have to fix since a computer cannot have both master hard drives nor slave drives as well.

The pins need

Compare and Review Video Cards Before Buying

Thanks to the number of PC games that have come out today in the market, the need for higher spec video cards has become an large demand today. Manufacturers such as Nvidia and ATI Radeon have become big names today for focusing a lot on the screen resolution and graphics that are needed for PC users to enjoy games and videos which have been integrated in the world of personal computing today.

But while these video card manufacturers are making a profit out of it all, they have some models that need to be addressed to. In a production mix, there will always be a line of goods that will not be that perfect. Issues such as overheating and system crashes due to incompatibility will always occur and unfortunately the only way to determine that is by reading reviews from people who have bought them first.

This is only normal. Most computer parts have their share of problems along the way. While we would not want to experience these problems, it only remains that they can occur at times where we least expect it. There are also times when you may have unluckily bought one of the defective ones which
