Origami Experience 2.0 Released

The Origami Experience 2.0 has been released for download on the Microsoft Download Center today!

The Origami Experience 2.0 is designed for Ultra-Mobile PCs that run Windows Vista. To run the Origami Experience 2.0, a UMPC with the following specifications is recommended:  

  • Minimum 100 MB of available hard disk space
  • Minimum 1 GB of system memory
  • Touch panel display (required for Origami Picture Password)

The Origami Experience 2.0 requires the following software installed:  

  • Windows Internet Explorer 7. Origami Experience 2.0 requires Internet Explorer 7 for its RSS platform.
  • Windows Media Player 11. Origami Central requires Windows Media Player 11 in order to manage and play media.
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. The calendar tile in Origami Now works only with Office Outlook 2007 Calendar. The mail tile in Origami Now works with Office Outlook 2007 Mail and Windows Mail.
  • The Windows update available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932406 . This update is highly recommended if you use the mail tile in Origami Now with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.

Behind the Scenes of the Windows Vista Sound Schemes

I'm posting this on behalf of my colleague Steve Ball.

Hi, my name is Steve Ball and I'm a Principal Program Manager Lead on the Windows Sound Team. I'd like to take a moment and give some background on sound schemes in Windows as well as the new sound schemes released as Ultimate Extras and their relationship with the default Windows Vista scheme.

Default Windows Vista Sound Scheme
The default Windows Vista sound scheme was designed with the same principles that were used in designing the Windows Vista visual elements and desktop experience.  In contrast, the Windows XP sounds, while appropriate at the time and for that product design, were very ‘Western' and literal, using pianos and western orchestral instruments.   The XP sounds were designed to complement the ‘photo-realistic' Bliss desktop (blue sky, green grass photo.)  The Windows XP sounds can also be rather percussive and jarring in the context of day to day PC use, so it was an explicit goal to re-orchestrate the default Windows Vista sounds to complement the softer, cleaner theme and user interface elements in Windows Vista.  

For Windows Vista, it was an intentional design goal to avoid ‘reinventing' the User Interface language for sound.  For example,

Remove Sandeep Verma virus i.e. snake.exe.vbs


The virus also known as snake.exe.vbs is in form a vbs script which copies itself in the system32 folder and adds itself to the startup items so that it starts as soon as windows boots. The most common feature of this virus is that it sets the homepage of your internet explorer to http://sandeep-verma.blogspot.com

The virus creates the following files in system32 folder
snake.exe.vbs

To remove the virus you need to first of all kill the following process
wscript.exe

Next delete the virus i.e. the following files from the removable media if the virus came from there.
snake.exe.vbs
autorun.inf

Next go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder and find the following file and delete it
snake.exe.vbs
(It may be hidden. You may need RRT a free tool to show hidden files)

Now you need to do some editing with the registry.
(Be careful before you edit registry. Improper edition could lead to system crash)

Go to the following key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\
{0d0717e0-2102-11dd-b5a9-00c026a310b1}\Shell\AutoRun\command

On the right hand side there will be value of default with data of wscript.exe snake.exe.vbs
Click on default and delete the value data...
