Autorun is a feature which allows a program to start running as soon as a CD or DVD is inserted in the CD or DVD ROM drive. Creating an Autorun-enabled CD-ROM is as simple as creating just a single file and placing it in the root directory of the CD or DVD disk.

One way to create an Autorun-enabled CD/DVD disk is to do it manually. You have to create a file named autorun.inf and place it in the root directory of the CD/DVD disk before burning the disk. Its content should be as follows:

icon=snazzie.ico

where “setup.exe” is the executable which you want to run as soon the CD/DVD is inserted and the icon to display on the VD/DVD ROM drive. This will run the application specified in open. This will not create any menu but it works. Here’s a simple trick by which you can easily disable the balloon notifications in Windows Vista.

1. Open Registry Editor (Run > type regedit).

2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

3. Modifiy EnableBalloonTips and change its value to 0.
