Re-enabling hibernation in Windows Vista after disk cleanup

Windows Vista Cleanup tool, which enables you to clear your disk of unnecessary files, one of the main reason why we run out of space on C:\ partition.

After having cleanup the files I cannot see the Hibernate option in Power Options anymore. This problem occurs when the Disk Cleanup Tool disables the hibernation file. The hibernation file must be enabled to access the hybrid sleep feature and the hibernation feature in Windows Vista. When the hibernation file is disabled, and the hybrid sleep feature is enabled, a backup of open programs and open files will not be saved to the disk when you use the sleep feature in Windows Vista. Additionally, if the computer loses power while the Windows is in sleep mode, open programs and open files will not be recovered, and any unsaved work will be lost.
In order to get the Hibernate option back in the Power Options mode you should take following steps:

1. Click Start , click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
2. Right-click Command Prompt, click Run as administrator, type powercfg -h on, and then press ENTER.

The command line tool powercfg.exe enables users to control the power settings on the system. An overview of all parameters that can be passed to the cool can be found by running the command "C:\Windows\system32>powercfg /?" from the command prompt.

For the hibernation we need the following:
-HIBERNATE, -H Enables-Disables the hibernate feature. Hibernate timeout is notsupported on all systems.
Usage: POWERCFG -H

After running the command above with the hibernation parameter - powercfg -h - the problem is solved and I can again hibernate my Windows Vista system. This applies to all Windows Vista editions.

PestSweeper Removal Guide

Do you know what PestSweeper is?

DESCRIPTION

PestSweeper is a rogue anti-spyware program designed to extort money from you. PestSweeper literally is a “pest” because once it is installed it pests you with annoying popups and alert messages that say you are infected with a parasite of some sort. The reality behind the messages is that you do not have the infections that it says. PestSweeper and the Trojan that may have installed PestSweeper are the pests that you must remove.

PestSweeper may be installed from a Trojan infection such as Zlob without your permission or directly from the PestSweeper.com website. PestSweeper should be called Pest-Maker because it surly does not sweep pests away.

In non-techie terms: PestSweeper is not much different from other rogue anti-spyware programs. It attempts to get you to purchase the full version of PestSweeper through fake scans and popups. Do not purchase or download PestSweeper under any circumstances.

Aliases: PestSweeper, Pest Sweeper, PestSweeper.com.

The Clicking Sound of Your Hard Drive

For people who have computers for quite some time, you would normally notice that your CPU would be as silent as possible. Aside from perhaps the fan or when your CD drive loads, you would hardly hear a thing.

When you boot up your PC, the beep is all you expect to hear. But what if you suddenly hear something weird such as clicking sound? Chances are you will open it up and try to find if there is something malfunctioning. In some cases, you may notice that it is coming from your hard disk. Once this happens, rest assured your hard disk is about to give way.

Hard drives have a certain life span. Some say it depends on the brand but others say that they are just the same. The thing here is that your data and files are perhaps the most important stuff to be considered. Once weird sounds start, you better start backing up your files by writing them on CDRs.

If you value your files and important documents, you should do it immediately. While you can make use of the hard disk drive for the meantime, you never know when the next time would become the last. Some say that files can be retrieved from bad sectored hard disks. But once you hard disk no longer responds, chances are you will say bye bye to all the files and the hard drive.

At this point all your hard drive can be is paper weight. It is no longer usable as powering up will just be futile for you and your hope of retrieving your files.
