NV3 Suite Theme - Free Download

This Vista theme is so unique and sharp that I think it’s the best theme of 2008 so far. There are so many custom made elements to this design that it’s hard to know where to start. I love the Start button and the unique icons throughout the theme. The windows have cool back and forward buttons and all the colors work so good together. Even the background has a cool unique white/grey look with a mirror effect for the logo. The black even looks great, which is hard to accomplish because usually too much black makes the theme look too dark. This one takes the cake.

Are you still using Windows XP? If you are then visit our FAQ page to download our XP Theme Patcher. If you’re using Windows Vista, you don’t need the Theme Patcher.

Make sure you patch your DNS Servers

There has been a story starting to brew about a serious DNS security flaw. The details of the flaw have finally been leaked here:

Information Week Article

This is one of those problems that is easy to ignore, but could become a huge nightmare if left unchecked.

Essentially the flaw allows an attacker to redirect clients to a different IP address for a particular domain.

For example, when you go a website (Lets take www.chase.com as an example) the domain name is translated into an IP address. In this case that IP address is run by Chase and responds to your request. When someone exploits the flaw they could redirect www.chase.com to go to their server, and present a fake login.

This is a simple example, and the possibilities are much worse than that. Imagine an attacker redirecting *all* of your traffic through their server. They could then use this opportunity to push spyware to you with every page you visit.

Many of you may not have a choice, since your DNS may be run by your ISP, but if you are running Windows based DNS servers, I suggest installing the patch as...

Vitae Antivirus 2008 Removal Guide

Do you know what Vitae Antivirus 2008 is?

DESCRIPTION

Vitae Antivirus 2008 was discovered to be a clone of the infamous rogue anti-spyware program Antivirus 2008. It seems the Antivirus 2008 family of programs is growing bigger by the day with cleverly named new additions. Vitae Antivirus 2008 comes off to look very similar to XP Antivirusor WinAntivirusPro using the same old colors and comparable interface.

Don’t be fooled by the pretty blue colors and nicely laid out buttons on the Vitae Antivirus 2008 program, it is still a fake anti-spyware program that does nothing but take your money and waste your time. Vitae Antivirus 2008 does not add security functions to your computer or provide virus/spyware protection.

If you have Vitae Antivirus 2008 do you remember if you downloaded a video codec lately? Trojan infections such as Zlob come from fake video codec downloads which can easily install Vitae Antivirus 2008 without your permission.

In non-techie terms: The reality behind Vitae Antivirus 2008 is that it is almost the same program as Antivirus 2008 only in a slightly different skin sporting a new name.

Fix steam protocol problems in Windows Vista

Many people face this problem “steam://purchase/38 is not a recognized protocol” when they try to purchase anything from the steam store. But Farid brought a fix for the same problem. Here is how you can fix the steam protocol problems in Windows Vista.

The problem lies within Vista’s registry security settings. I am writing this from memory (I don’t have Vista myself). Here’s how to fix it:

1. Using Vista’s start menu, type “regedit” in the run field to start the registry editor.

2. Browse to the “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\steam” key. If you are having the problem you will notice that you aren’t able to view the key content

3. Right click on the “steam” key and click on “permissions…”.

4. You will notice that no user is listed under “Allowed users”. Add the following users/group and give them full access: Administrators (group), System (user) and your own user name.

5. If you press Ok, it may complain that you are not the owner and aren’t allowed to do this. In this case simply click on Advanced and

Trying a Different Look with Kubuntu

Kubuntu is Ubuntu that uses the K Desktop Environment (KDE) graphical desktop in place of GNOME. KDE and GNOME are similar in many ways. However, KDE is considered to use more advanced technology than GNOME.

The ordinary computer user won't find that much difference between KDE and GNOME. Some people like KDE, others like GNOME, and yet others. Kubuntu provides the same range of applications, such as Openoffice.org, that Ubuntu does. New Kubuntu releases follow the same six-month schedule, too. Please browse www.kubuntu.org for more information about this product.

The following instructions assume you're working from an Ubuntu computer with a writable CD-ROM or DVD drive.

You need to download a Kubuntu CD-ROM image from an Ubuntu mirror to a computer from which you can burn the image to a writable CD. Follow these steps:

1. Click your Firefox browser icon on the GNOME panel.

2. Type www.kubuntu.org/download.php in the Location text box and press the Enter key.

3. Click the Download link for the latest version.

4. Click the link to your continent. The menu of download sites expands to different countries.

5. Click your country. The menu expands to show...
