VMWare clarification on the license issue

I just received an email from VMWare:

Hi Steve --

Thanks for pointing out the Auditing term in the ESXi license.

We usually sell our enterprise products with "Support and Subscription" (SnS). This entitles you to both support and product updates for a period of time.

As the license is written, if there is no fee involved for the product (which there isn't in the free ESXi) or if you haven't purchased support (i.e., there is no SnS), then the auditing provision doesn't apply.

I realize it looks crazy and I've forwarded your thoughts internally here at VMware. I hope we can come up with something a bit more human-readable, especially for the free version.

Very refreshing to hear this. After looking through the license again I see what he means. Hopefully the free license will be updated to be more clear about...

Watch NBC’s coverage of the Beijing Olympics in Windows Media Center

NBC is further expanding its coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with an Internet-delivered catch-up TV service powered by TVTonic on Windows Media Center on PCs running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate! With NBC Olympics On The Go and Windows Media Center, you will be able to create a customized channel lineup of your favorite events for automatic download to your PC. Download NBC coverage of the Games overnight, and take them with you to watch online or offline in up to HD quality.

In Windows Media Center on PCs running either Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate, you'll find a new graphic under "Online Media" called NBC Olympics. Click on "Install Now" to install the NBC Olympics service for Windows Media Center.

When I went to install, I was given two options: Easy Install and Full Install. The Easy Install requires no keyboard or mouse and sets everything up for you to begin watching content. However, more advanced users (and users with plenty of bandwidth) can choose to do a more comprehensive Full Install. As you could

Power Antivirus 2009 Removal Guide

Do you know what Power Antivirus 2009 is?

DESCRIPTION

Power Antivirus 2009 or PowerAntivirus2009, is a rogue anti-spyware program that is related to Win Antivir 2008 or Win Antivirus 2008. I guess you have to have some extra “power” and not just the normal Antivirus 2009 program. From the looks of it, Power Antivirus 2009 is powerful enough to take money from computer users who make the mistake of purchasing this meaningless program.

Power Antivirus 2009 can be downloaded or installed from the www.power-antivirus-2009.com website. You should never visit www.power-antivirus-2009.com even if your curiosity is getting the best of you. You risk the download of the Power Antivirus 2009 program and it is not a good program to have on your computer.

In non-techie terms: From our experience with Power Antivirus 2009 it is not surprising to find out that it is not much different from other fake anti-spyware programs that infect computers worldwide. Power Antivirus 2009’s interface looks just like Win Antivir 2008 or Win Antivirus 2008 so we are guessing that the creators of this program did not put much “power” into creating a different look.

Power

Canonical and the Ubuntu Foundation

Ubuntu is an organization driven by a community; several organizations play an important role in its structure and organization. Foremost among these are Canonical Ltd., a for-profit company.

Canonical Ltd.
Canonical Ltd. is a company founded by Shuttleworth with the primary goal of developing and supporting the Ubuntu distribution. Many of the core developers on Ubuntu no longer a majority of them work full-time or part-time under contract for Canonical Ltd. This funding by Canonical allows Ubuntu to make the type of support commitments that it does. Ubuntu can claim that it will release in six months because releasing, in one form or another, is something that the paid workers at Canonical can ensure. As an all-volunteer organization, Debian suffered from an inability to set and meet deadlines volunteers become busy or have other deadlines in their paying jobs that take precedence. By offering a subset of developers paying jobs, Canonical can set support and release deadlines and ensure that they are met.

In this way, Canonical ensures that Ubuntu's bottom-line commitments are followed through on. Of course, Canonical neither funds all Ubuntu work, nor could it. Canonical can release a distribution every six months, but that distribution...

Can your Rely on the Windows XP System Restore Option?

One thing you must love about Windows XP is that they have the system restore option active at times that makes it easier for you to restore at some point after you have properly backed up your system. But along with that backup includes problems such as infected files by viruses or Trojans. That is perhaps if you noticed, that sometimes, when you have to get rid of a dreaded virus, tutorials will tell you to temporarily turn off the system restore option to make sure that you don’t leave any trace of these infections.

But the question is on whether you really need the system restore turned on. Some would turn it off to be safe while others just leave it on. This is to avoid the problems of infections at times but if you are wise, it is best to leave it on, especially if you are not too technically savvy about tinkering your operating system.

A good practice to consider is to of course set a restore point and then turn off the system restore. But before you do, make sure that this restore point is virus free and reliable. That way, you can be sure that
