Bad iTunes 8 Driver May Cause Issues

Earlier this week, Apple released iTunes 8 which included some headaches for Windows Vista users (including myself) in the way of blue screens of death. My good friend Ed Bott dug into the situation and discovered what might be causing the issue - it appears to be a problem with a driver that is installed when users also install iTunes 8. Unfortunately iTunes is known for pushing out components that Windows users don't necessarily want.

Fortunately, not all is lost. Due to the uproar from unsatisfied customers, Apple issued an updated version of iTunes 8 that fixes the problem (sort of).  You'll need to uninstall the broken version of ITunes 8 and Apple Mobile Devices support, and then use your Apple Software Updater to reinstall iTunes 8 and get it working the right way.

Anyways you might be asking why I even installed iTunes in the first place and it's because I am a software fiend and love playing with new software regardless of who it's by. But just so you know - I'm a diehard Zune user myself ;-)

iTunes 8 has Vista problems

Everybody was very thrilled about the new version of iTunes, the iTunes 8. However, things are not going very well for Windows Vista users, iTunes 8 doesn’t seem to like Vista at this moment. Some users reported blue screens of death (BSOD) the moment they plug their iPod. Forums are assaulted with complains and replies regarding this issue, but it seems that a downgrade to iTunes 7.7 fixes this problem.
The overall conclusions seem to center around a driver problem, “GEARAspiWDM.sys” that allows 3rd party applications to write to the CD and DVD drives. Problems with this driver were reported in the past, but it seems this isn’t the only driver with problems in this iTunes situation. An USB controller driver for Vista appears in the crash logs, making this problem logic since the iPod is connected via USB.
I’m sure this problem will be resolved soon and we should expect several patches in the near future.

Are Eco-Friendly Chips Really Environmental Friendly?

Apparently, we have all been hearing the aggressive marketing of new eco-friendly chips from Intel. They are said to be made for recycled materials that can help bring down the energy resources of our computers and apparently this is something that many are researching and wondering at the moment. While it does seem like a good contribution towards becoming eco-friendly, one cannot help but wonder if they are indeed good as they claim to be.

For one, no one can deny the fact that adding an eco-friendly tag is a marketing aspect on its own. Apparently, the hoopla for the eco-friendly era is indeed in the air and we can see that from various companies that have engaged in applying an eco-friendly aspect of product manufacturing in terms of:

1. Packaging
2. The Manufacturing Process
3. Choice of Raw Materials
4. Shipping practices

Businesses, particularly in the computing sector have indeed become something to watch but as far as eco-friendly claims, a lot has to be done for people to really admonish the fact that they are one and true.

So is any buying these eco-friendly claims? If you sum it all up, not everyone cares that much as long as they get their needs and

Clean Your Desktop for Better Performance

If you talk about speeding up your computer, there is more to pointing at the usual memory and chips that you have. Neither can you blame improper defragmentation which are normally recommended if you want your computer to perform better so that you can enjoy the speedier processes of running applications or even surfing the web.

But perhaps there is one problem that has become the bane of all and it has to do with creating too much applications on your desktop that were made due shortcuts for easier navigation. Indeed, having a shortcut icon or widget on your desktop is easier rather than going to the start menu but also remember that your desktop load has a bearing when you want to speed up things for your PC.

Other than being organized, why would you want to have plenty shortcut icons on your desktop when in fact an additional process doesn’t really take much effort? It is hard to classify this as a form of being lazy. But the fact that most people want to make life easier is really something that has to be acknowledged.

The common understanding that computers should make life easier is at times taken

ProjectX 2 Theme - Free Download

Unique is the only way to describe this Vista theme. I love all the little things about this theme that make it standout, like the tabbed sorting bar and compact start menu. The black start orb looks great and the black with grey really looks fantastic. I think that another wallpaper would look better with this theme but this one is okay. The amount of work that went into this design is huge and I think the creators efforts have really paid off. This theme is great.

Are you still using Windows XP? If you are then visit our FAQ page to download our XP Theme Patcher. If you’re using Windows Vista, you don’t need the Theme Patcher.
