OK I found this while poking around and must say this is a helpdesk and developer savior.  How many times have you been on the phone with someone while trying to troubleshoot a problem and you just can’t tell what they are doing wrong?  While there are some remote tools that can help and you can try Remote Assistance I found this new tool in Windows 7 called the Problem Step Recorder.  In a nutshell it records the steps and takes screenshots as the user interacts with the OS (don't worry it won't record passwords).

Start –> Run –> PSR.exe

Click Start Record and begin reproducing the steps that cause the issue.  When done you can click Stop Record and the output will be saved into an annotated MHT file and zipped up ready to email.  The user can click Pause Record to pause (obviously) or click Add Comment to insert comments into the recording that will get noted in the MHT.

I can see so many uses for this little tool from troubleshooting to taking screenshots for future TLA articles :)

ATI/AMD provides a Linux version of its Catalyst configuration tool for use on Linux. Much of the ATI video drivers have now become open source, making the ATI video driver much more Linux-compatible. If your monitor is not correctly set, you may have to make sure your monitor is selected. Click the small monitor icon next to the Model text box to open a Choose Screen window with manufacturer and model listings. First select the manufacturer. All supported monitors for that manufacturer will then be listed in the model listings. Then select the correct model. You will see the horizontal and vertical frequencies for that selected monitor displayed. Check with your monitor documentation to make sure they are correct. You can try to use the Detect button to automatically detect the monitor settings, but this may not always be accurate.

You also have the option of creating different location profiles. This is useful if you are using different monitors at certain locations or for different purposes. So, for example, your laptop could have one location for its own screen and another for an attached larger screen. Others could use one location for a standard PC monitor and another for a home theater display such as an LCD TV. You can also select which driver to use. The appropriate driver will already be selected, but if you are having problems with a vendor’s driver, you may want to switch to the X.org driver. Click the Driver button to open a Choose Graphics Card Driver window, where you can then select the drivers from a list or by graphics card model.

Normally, monitors are plugged via the standard graphics card but today, we can see them even being plugged via the USB. Most of them are used as a sidelight, perhaps the reason for the name, and possessing a 7-inch monitor that is intended to be a secretary monitor to display instant messages and other widgets that might get lost behind all the open windows on a desktop or laptop computer is certainly something many techie geeks would seriously consider.

For some it is additional cost. If you already have the standard monitors in computers, why bother to get a secondary one? The reason may be more understandable if it is geared towards the business side. It is no secret that in cases of making presentations, a dual screen to help people appreciate slides or videos via another route of visual representation is normal.

Hence, it may be more of a professional thing. But basing it on observations, you may be surprised to note at how people want to get their hands on techie gadgets today. Though there is no price yet set for this SideStage monitor, you can bet it will not come cheap.

According to Dan Kelley, D-Link’s senior director of marketing, the monitor is expected to be available in stores during the first quarter of 2009. The “photo” router also has not been priced, but is expected to launch later this year.
