USB 3.0 Speed upto 5Gbps!

USB 3.0 has been expected to “arrive” for a considerable amount of time, but due to the lengthy draft certification process, and general lack of pressure to get 3.0 “SuperSpeed” devices out in the market, it wasn’t expected to become widespread until 2010. However, with NEC’s new host controller, the arrival of the new USB standard could arrive soon.

The host controller is a chip which connects the host system such as a PC to external storage, peripherals or other systems, and NEC’s new host controller (µPD720200) is based on the SuperSpeed USB standard which was finalized in November of 2008, more than eight years after the USB 2.0 spec was released.

// The 3.0 spec promises transfer speeds of up to 5 gigabits per second with full backwards compatibility with 480 Mbps USB 2.0 (a.k.a., High Speed), 1.5 Mbps – 12 Mbps USB 1.0 (Low Speed to Full Speed). NEC says the new chip requires only 70 seconds to transfer 25 GB of video content to/from a Blu-ray disc, compared to the 14 minutes it would take with USB 2.0.

Malware infection strikes US Justice Department

A virus infection of unknown type and origin necessitated the partial shutdown of computer networks belonging to the US Marshals Service on Thursday. The FBI was also believed to have been infected, and other Justice Department agencies were taking precautions Thursday as well.

Nikki Credic, a spokesperson for the US Marshals Service, provided very little data about the nature of the problem, but she did state that no data was known to have been compromised. The agency took down its net access and shut down some parts of its e-mail service while tech folk got to the source of the problem.

Government agencies are hardly immune from infections large and small. Back in November, the Department of Defense went through considerable trouble over an infection that began with, it is believed, an infected thumb drive. In the resulting uproar, the DoD ended up banning the use of any removable media in computers attached to the NIPRNET or SIPRNet systems.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 RTW

On April 28th, we announced that Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (Service Pack 2) SP2 had RTM’d. Today, we are pleased to announce the Release to Web (RTW) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2.

WV-SP2_h_rgb

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2, a combined service pack for both operating systems encapsulated in a single installer, will simplify deployment, management, and support for IT Professionals. It includes support for new types of hardware and emerging hardware standards, as well as updates since SP1.  For specific information on what’s included in SP2, visit the notable changes document.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 is now available for download on the Microsoft Download Center and on Windows Update.

Download: Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 (5 Language Standalone)
Download: Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64 (5 Language Standalone)

Consumers with Windows Vista SP1 can visit the Microsoft Download Center or use Windows Update (WU) to install SP2, but my suggestion is to turn on Automatic Update (AU) and sometime during the coming months your computer will download and install SP2. Similar to previous releases, SP2 delivery over Automatic Update is a “throttled release” which will begin in June.

Business customers who require additional time to prepare for the download and deployment of SP2 can use the same blocker tool kit provided for Windows Vista SP1 to delay deployment.

Business customers with Windows Vista will find the transition to Windows 7 will be significantly more straightforward due to the high degree of compatibility between Windows Vista and Windows 7. For more on Windows deployment guidance, I suggest reading this blog post from Gavriella Schuster.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 represents Microsoft’s continued commitment to quality. While most updates contained in SP2 are available as individual downloads, the roll-up convenience of SP2 is a major benefit for administrators. This functionality coupled with new advanced deployment features, such as the single installer and the pre-installation analyzer, means SP2 continues to provide ongoing improvements that our customers have grown to expect from Microsoft. For more detail on SP2’s contents, see Hotfixes and Security Updates in Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Vista SP2.

We can remember

I’ve been thinking now, back to then, when warming filters make it glow

And when was then? Some distant guitar strung halcyon I’ll forever chase.

Catching the catchlights in the eyes’ of the distant past, and somehow I now stand lost.

I know I once held THAT eclectic electric that ignites in their lustful eyes

The excitement of the kiss and the first gaze of wanderlust and now it seems so distant and commonly cold

I know I am trying to find my way in the acerbic realm of the twenty first

Can you remember that feeling? A feeling so deadened since ninety-seven.

And now all I chase are the fragments in new towns and the rays of suns since set

I know I am still trying to find that wonderland long since lost and where is my mind in this quixotic democracy

But it is still flickering in those sideway glances on the M1, 421 and Secklow Gates

And while I still chase those steady recollections I remain alive pacing through the days of daily adult revelation

Where did that glowing world go and from where did innocence cross the rooftops?

I wish to be lost in your eyes and try and find that spark that seems so dampened now.

And where is excitement, that gentle caress in the lonely night in the Travelodge.

What in the hell is all this for and who am I trying to replace in this photographic mind of mine

I’m still searching that electric connection I left behind in O’Hare that is fading now like that day in eighty-seven

So should I walk away from you girls with your sparked destiny crossing your eyes as you kiss?

I think not.

So should I leave this bizarre democratised landscape where I am at least roaming free with a smashed vision?

No.

At least definite answer in sodium city lights.

I wish I could touch that jean belt hip.

I wish I could connect beyond my own.

I wish I could impart what I see to them out there.

This woman’s become an island since o-five.

I just want to cross those rouge lips again without the crush of nine to five.

And no energy pours from inside where the bill paying denizen resides.

I can’t do well when I’m stuck inside clawing at the windows to be free from AD 2009.

When am I going to leave this realm?

Just let me touch that shoulder with my Kodachromed gaze and I’ll be fine

When I’ve escaped this nightmare realm and touched those elusive lips again

Try as I might, this bucolic gaze has become hackneyed

But I know its lustful electric is real.
