For the purpose of this discussion, let’s lump all of these descriptions together under one general class of problems and call these “glitching.” While a glitch that happens during music playback can be annoying and unsettling, a glitch that occurs while you are recording or communicating with someone can result in frustrating and unacceptable data loss.
What causes my Windows sound and music to glitch?
Digital media processing is time-sensitive. Playback requires specific work to be performed by a given deadline — otherwise presentation or data loss can occur. A “glitch” occurs when a deadline for time-sensitive processing is missed or when time-sensitive data is lost.
For example, in Windows Vista, playing back music involves “work” that must be done at least every 10 milliseconds so that there can be a continuous stream of music out to your speakers. The “simple” task of playing back music consists of the following steps, all of which must be completed before a strict deadline:
- a small chunk of data from a music file needs to be read from a disc (CD or hard drive)
- this data needs to be “decompressed” or “decoded” (usually in system memory) so it can be streamed out to your speakers in a format that your sound hardware understands
- the decompressed sound data needs to be copied from system memory to your sound hardware memory
- the data in your sound hardware needs to be sent to your speakers at the appropriate time
- repeat steps 1-4 flawlessly every 10 milliseconds (ms)

Remove the Junk files after installing Vista SP1
Once you Install Vista Service Pack 1,the installer will not remove the older Vista files from the computer because it will be required for uninstalling Vista.If you removing the older files you will not be able to uninstall Vista SP1,so think about it before you go with removing the Junk files.There is only a command you need type:- Open the Command Prompt and type vsp1cln.exe (short for Vista SP1 Cleaner)

Windows Vista SP1 Released for Download
Today, you can now download Windows Vista SP1 via Windows Update. For those of you eager to receive the benefits of Windows Vista SP1 - you can now do so! We've seen quite a bit of questions in our comments so we want to communicate as much as possible surrounding Windows Vista SP1 and today's release to Windows Update as we can. For those of you happy to wait - sit tight because SP1 will start downloading to PCs automatically beginning in mid-April (Remember, this happens only if you have your Windows Update configured to automatically download updates and SP1 will automatically download but not automatically install). But if you want to get the benefit of a year's worth of improvements right now, go check Windows Update today...(Hit the Start Menu, All Programs, and select Windows Update).
If in running Windows Update you do not see Windows Vista SP1 listed, there are a number of good reasons for this (Eight in fact, see the whole list). Below are a few of the most common reasons why you might not see SP1 on Windows Update:
You have not yet installed all the prerequisite packages you need for Windows Vista SP1. To install them, visit the Windows Update control panel and click on "check for updates."
- You have a pre-release version of SP1 and need to uninstall it before installing SP1
- You already have it. To determine if you already have SP1 installed, Open the Start Menu, right click on Computer and left click on Properties.
- We released SP1 in these 5 languages: English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese. If you have any other language installed, SP1 will not yet be offered to you. (You might not even know if you have an additional language installed! Check the Language control panel to see what languages you have installed)
- Back in February we announced that we'd be using Windows Update to help make the update as seamless as possible for our users. Windows Update will detect drivers that we know may be problematic when updating to SP1 and will not offer the service pack until an update has been installed.
