Hi
Thanks for all your help on this nightmarish experience. The only thing that seemed to work for me (I'm running Windows XP) was Super Ad Blocker. It's a 14-day trial version but does the trick.
Tried almost every other software suggested (wouldn't do a manual removal as I don't want to mess with registry) including Windows Live OneCare and AdAware which didn't help.
However I should mention that though SuperAd was finally able to remove all traces of the virus including the blue desktop wallpaper, it could not restore the screensaver and wallpaper tabs when you right-click on desktop and select display properties. Had to install Windows on top of existing version to get those back.

after an 8 hour battle with this stupid virus i finally got it off my pc.

1. i spent the whole night using Ad-Aware, Superantispyware & AVG, which managed to removed the crucial bit of the virus

2. i continued having the hijack browser peoblem. so i manually removed the virus as per directions given above (as well as few other sites, google it and paste the site on a new tab as clicking on it will just redirect it to some random shitty scam sites)

3. http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/vista/spyware-removal solved my wallpaper problem (altho wallpaper can be changed, but if you right click to properties but were only given 3 tabs instead of the original 5)

4. but I still had the problem of browser hijack whenever I used google search on IE and Firefox (it redirects me to another random site which , and it doesn't allow me to access sites eg. malwarebytes.org or karspersky av which would help to eliminate the virus entirely)

so this was what i did. i got someone to send me malwarebytes' anti-malware (malwarebytes.org) thru Skype (or MSN) and installed and ran the program. less than 30 minutes, everything was scanned, the virus which couldn't be detected thru AS, AVG & Ad-Aware was detected by this malware anti-malware, the anti-malware require me to reboot my comp and my problem was solved.

i hope this helps the hijacked browser problem which most ppl seem to be having even after going thru the whole process of getting rid of the virus in the registry cos I spent the whole night getting really angry because I spent hours after hours reading thru things I even had no idea off because I'm an IT noob.

take note that this malware attacks differently on every comp, so no one comp might experience the same things. some had the BSOD (blue screen of death) but I didn't, some disabled the task manager but i didn't experience that, some didn't have a prob with the hijacked browser but I did.

Hi folks
Unfortunately my laptop was infected by this antivirus virus, and also rippedoff and paid $80 for it while I was so desperate dealing with the popups. But a few hours later reliazed that something wrong but the transaction was done. I called TD VISA right away, they asked me to wait couple of days until the transaction showing on statement. Called again, VISA security asking me to send email to customer support first asking for refund and wait couple of days, if no response, they will investigate. I did that, and called VISA AGAIN, this time is Resolution Dept, she asked me to call back in 30 days, if not get refund, they would start invesitgate. What the hell is going on with these Cards company, to me, they are no better than the hackers. Any suggestion ?

delete all of the values
next make sure the process of antivirus2009 is still stop
then proceed to the start menu
open my computer
open local disk drive c:

This program is really a pain. I'm working in a company as an admin and some people getting this popup messages only because they where too uncareful when they where surfing on pages. On some machines it was working to remove it (antivirus 2008 was not installed, only the popups you could see all the time), other machines where completely lost. I had to restore Admin rights on some machines where you could not open Taskmanager or Control Panel any more. Someone really should do something against this kind of "Rogue-Software".

Goodluck

Patrick
You probably need to wipe your PC and rebuild from scratch because the virus drops files all over your disk so even if you remove the virus you still have to trawl through your whole disk removing these other files. If you want free antivirus used Avast or AVG they are both good.

Thanks, this solution is really helpful! Even professional antivirus NOD32 couldn't solve this threat, with this tool I've removed this threat in the half hour.

Okay, SO just like all you suckers... im a sucker too. I THINK i downloaded "Antivirus XP 2008" in a panic to find something to protect my computer after my norton expired.

I've tried:
1.add and remove program (didnt work)
2.Looking for the files to delete manualy (didnt work)
3.System Restore (It wont let me restore! The only bolded date is the current one)
4.Safe mode to system restore (didnt work)
5.Safe mode to MANUALLY delete the folders (didnt work)

Can ANY one please email me at pat-ential@hotmail.com if theres any easy way to delete this BS. Because my next action is reboot, and i dont really want to do it.
Goodluck everyone else.

I just paid for this XP Anti Virus removal program, I ran a scan and deleted everything that indicated were virus. Nothing changed in my computer. After, I went back to your home page to send this comment, and I read other users comments. I have to agree with them. I got taken. You did not sell me a program as advertised to get rid of my virus. I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
