Computer Leasing Patented by Microsoft
It looks like Microsoft has another brainchild as far as broadening its business scope is concerned and entrepreneurs who have put up various Internet shops or Internet cafes are bound to be their main target. Hailed as the “Pay Per Use”, it is a great innovation in the world of computer rentals, much of which many business-minded have invested in over the years.
Among the problems that most Internet shops have encountered is the method of metering and properly auditing PC rentals. There have been some who have developed their own programs for such a need but apparently none of them have been perfected. Glitches that include improper access and making it entirely inconvenient to computer users has become a problem, contributing towards driving them away rather than stamping a more logical way of doing business.
The concept worked as follows: instead of paying a large up-front cost, customers would sign a two-year ISP agreement at a rate of, say, $24.95 per month. In exchange for the system, lucky owners agreed to watch advertisements, receive special offers, or turn over their browsing histories. The terms varied, but at a time when users were rushing to get online and computers were still in the $700-$800 range, this was one heck of a deal—on paper.
So with this new offering, a lot of computer shop owners offering rentals are bound to entertain this new development that is bound to be offered by Microsoft for its partners.
