Fedora Live USB Creator
Have you ever wished you could carry an Operating System around in your pocket? Ok, ok…only a Geek like me would wish something like that.
Regardless of your status in Geektopia, the awesome folks over at Fedora have made it possible.
As you may have read, I recently hung up my Linux CD’s and re-installed Vista on my machine. Why? Lots of reasons. I guess you could say I’d finally reached a point to where I didn’t care what was running on my PC, and there were some things I wanted to do, that I simply couldn’t do efficiently on a Linux platform. I’ve always been a firm believer in the “best tool for the job”, and for me, at least right now, Linux was no longer the best tool for the job.
I can still have my Linux “fix” however. I can even carry it around with me!
The application itself is dead-simple to use. Simply download the tool, download a Fedora ISO, launch the application, browse for the ISO, choose the destination drive, and set however much space you’d like for persistence, click “Create Live USB”, and you are done!
I’ve created 2 different USB sticks, one with the i686 Fedora 10 Live image and one with the x86_64 image, and simply used the left-over space on the two 2GB flash drives as persistent storage.
If you have ever wanted to check out Linux, but didn’t want to risk trying a dual-boot, give this a shot – it’s not “hard drive fast”, but it sure is close, and a lot faster than running from a CD!
