the portion of removing the windows7 as part of booting went without a hitch, and the system booted automatically into xp.

But removing the windows7 folder manually did not succeed. It still refuses to get deleted.

The same issue happened to me, manually deleting the win7 folders was denied by the system. Is there any other options to do this, since win7 occupies much hd spaces.

You have to format the partition that Windows 7 is in. Then you can delete that partition. After that you resize your C: drive back to it’s previous size.

google search led me here. I used partition magic and deleted the partition with windows 7, but now I can’t merge the empty space. It’s listed as “unallocated” I never did format windows 7 first. what can I do?

probably obvious to most… but just in case, the 2 folders win7 setup creates are read only - to remove them, right click on them, view properties and untick the ‘read only’ box - when xp asks, do apply it to all subfolders.

should be able to remove them now…

Thanks a Million…After searching google for hours with no luck (or receiving a bunch of bogus info) This was the first clear, concise, and easy to understand/use Fix…I even printed a copy to place with my Win 7 DVD in case I ever run into this problem again. So much time wasted when all I had to-do was follow this simple plan. {>
