iTunes 8 has Vista problems

Everybody was very thrilled about the new version of iTunes, the iTunes 8. However, things are not going very well for Windows Vista users, iTunes 8 doesn’t seem to like Vista at this moment. Some users reported blue screens of death (BSOD) the moment they plug their iPod. Forums are assaulted with complains and replies regarding this issue, but it seems that a downgrade to iTunes 7.7 fixes this problem.
The overall conclusions seem to center around a driver problem, “GEARAspiWDM.sys” that allows 3rd party applications to write to the CD and DVD drives. Problems with this driver were reported in the past, but it seems this isn’t the only driver with problems in this iTunes situation. An USB controller driver for Vista appears in the crash logs, making this problem logic since the iPod is connected via USB.
I’m sure this problem will be resolved soon and we should expect several patches in the near future.

I got a new laptop with windows vista in April, itunes didn’t give me a BSOD, but it won’t play any of the music I have purchased. Is there a way to solve this problem?

My Itunes worked well, except for the having to reformat my ipod thing. I figured that maybe if i updated to the new itunes, all my problems would be solved. Not so, now my itunes ont even come up. I did a system recovery not long aga(as windows was not reading my wireless adapter, but have put about 2000 songs on since and really dont wanna recover and start over again!!!!
