Manually Remove Microsoft Dynamics CRM Laptop Client for Outlook

Last weekend I was installing the CRM Laptop Client on a bunch of laptops for a customer. On some of these machines the CRM Laptop Client where installed before, so I uninstalled it and tried to install again but received the following error message;

“An incompatible version of the Microsoft CRM desktop client for Outlook or the Microsoft CRM laptop client for Outlook is already installed on this computer.”

Okay so I tried the routine Microsoft has for this located here, but still installation failed with the same error message.

So I tried to Google the problem and see what I could find, but I always ended up with some version of the article Microsoft has posted. I was close to giving up, but then I tried to delete the old user profile and now installation ran with no problems.

Don’t try and delete the profile directly in the file system as this will not help, do it from the User Profiles menu;
