Pensieri su SuperFetch in Vista

I fermi del Vista molto undeserved il flack intorno al fotoricettore. Persino ho visto che ha confrontato all'errore horrible conosciuto come WindowsME (A.K.A terza edizione di Windows 98), che è un confronto che è non solo undeserved ma senso fuori della base.

Vista (o Windows 6.0 generalmente) ha fatto le cose molto a destra. Non solo Vista ha fatto maturare in un OS molto piacevole e capace della stazione di lavoro, I? m. molto saltata assente da Windows Server 2008 pure. Windows XP stava ottenendo? pozzo? nessun altro senso metterlo ma? vecchio?. (Attualmente) la maggior parte del sistema operativo usato nel mondo è stato liberato su noi in 2001 ed ha ricevuto la stessa critica molto che Vista ha ottenuto sul rilascio (lento, incompatibile, buggy, incompleto, ecc.). Il fatto onesto era, esso era giusto? differente? e molti utenti resistono semplicemente al cambiamento affatto del genere. Penso uno alle molte cose che conducono a Vista? la mancanza di s di accettazione era il fatto che così tanto il tempo aveva passato fra il rilascio di XP fino al rilascio di Vista a che ha permesso semplicemente XP? assuma la direzione di? come era. Sicuri, ci erano edizioni con Vista quando hanno uscito, ma onestamente, la maggior parte dei problema sono stati risolti entro alcuni mesi mentre i driver (driver specificamente video) hanno fatto maturare. Onestamente penso quel Vista? Di base? era un'idea difettosa? là shouldn? la t è stata un'edizione di Vista senza Aero e penso che i requisiti minimi siano stati senso fuori della base? Couldn I? la t immagina vivere con Vista con un CPU 800MHz e un 512MB della RAM. Quell'essere detto, credo con ogni osso nel mio corpo che tutta la macchina con almeno un CPU di Doppio-Nucleo e un 2GB della RAM sia più veloce sotto Vista (in esso? la s SP1 corrente dichiara) che con XP. Non solo Vista ha portato x64 (o x86_64, AMD64 o tuttavia desiderate dirli) alla corrente principale, esso infine ha saputo controllare una grande quantità di memoria senza riguardo all'architettura della macchina.

Molta gente protesta quel Vista? usi troppa RAM?. Bene, lascilo dargli un flash di notizie (vada avanti ed annoti questo e mettalo in qualche luogo che lo vedrete regolarmente): La RAM inutilizzata è RAM sprecata. Perchè spendere i soldi e dotate la vostra nuova macchina lucida di grande quantità di RAM ed allora la desiderate sedere il idle, non essendo utilizzando?

Lascilo cogliere questa opportunità riordinare alcune idee sbagliate comuni circa come Vista usa la RAM ed inoltre come SuperFetch che usando gli aiuti della RAM accelera il vostro calcolatore (piuttosto che ritardilo giù).

In this screenshot, I have two separate areas highlighted: one is Red and the other is Orange.

The area in Orange is the amount of RAM that Vista is currently using for itself. This amount will vary depending on your system, you running applications, background tasks, enabled services and the over-all amount of RAM in your system. Vista will use more RAM for itself (not counting SuperFetch) if it is available. Tom?s Hardware posted an article some time back which shows how Vista will use more RAM for itself depending on the architecture (x86 vs. x64) as well as the amount of RAM in the system. This only makes sense (goes back to ?Unused RAM is Wasted RAM?). This only gives the OS more room to stretch out and operate efficiently.

The area in Red shows the total amount of RAM in the system, the amount of RAM used for cache (SuperFetch is included in this) and the amount of ?free? RAM which isn?t being utilized at the moment. When I took this screenshot on my machine it had only been booted up for about 43 minutes, so SuperFetch hadn?t finished it?s job, so there was still 60MB of free RAM, however as I type this, ?Free? shows 0 on my Task Manager. This is ?good? RAM usage. This means Vista knows what you use regularly and is trying to keep that information handy for you so you don?t have to wait for it to be read from disk if you want to access it. This ram will however be instantly released as soon as another application needs it, so it really is still available, which is why I call it ?good? RAM usage.

I do hope (as great as I think SuperFetch is) that in Windows 7 SuperFetch gets tweaked just a little more to perhaps only include executable files, and/or documents that are frequently used, and perhaps give us power-users the option to exclude certain files. A good example of what I mean can be seen in this screenshot of my Resource Monitor:

In this screenshot the SuperFetch service is represented by the svchost.exe process and you can see it is actively reading a VirtualBox virtual Hard Drive image of a Windows XP Virtual Machine I have on one of my Hard Drives. While this does make my Windows XP virtual machine boot much faster (since a good chunk of it?s ?hard drive? is already stored in my system RAM), I wouldn?t mind waiting for that Virtual OS to boot straight from the HDD and have my SuperFetch cache used for more ?useful? stuff such as program executables and/or documents I access freely. I consider this a small peeve however with an otherwise excellent way of properly utilizing large amounts of RAM.
