Internet Explorer 7 is momenteel meest gebruikte wereldwijd browser, volgens statistieken die door Netto Toepassingen ter beschikking worden gesteld. Bevrijd over een jaar geleden voor Vensters XP SP2 en de Server 2003 van Vensters, zijn browser vanaf December 2007 aan een marktaandeel van 40.61% gegroeid. Met eind 2007 komt ook het dethroning van Internet Explorer 6, uit de machtspositie op de browser markt. IE6 geeft momenteel van 35.18% rekenschap, en is de tweede - meeste gebruikte browser in de langs gevolgde wereld, Firefox 2.0 in derde plaats met 15.80%.

Opera widgets are web applications that run directly on your desktop without displaying the browser controls because Opera web browser can install and show them automatically.
They can be constructed using regular client side programming languages such as JavaScript and Flash. As a consequence, minimal knowledge regarding common used web-related programming languages are necessary if you want to create a new widget or to modify an existing one.

The main parts of an Opera widget are a file named index.html and a config.xml file. The index.html file can control external files, such as Flash animations or external Javascripts or could contain a Javascript in it, for example. Practically a widget could be assimilated to a regular client side web application which performs certain actions on a Windows or Linux desktop, as if it was called from a web browser. (more…)

A new version of Firefox is available for download. On October 19, Mozilla made available an update to its open source browser, taking the version build from 2.0.0.7 to 2.0.0.8. The version numbers are not a clear indication of the evolution between the two Firefox variants. According to Mozilla, over 200 issues impacting the Firefox browser were addressed by the 2.0.0.8 update. However, at the same time, the extent of the modifications introduced by Firefox 2.0.0.8 also affected the functionality of the browser regressing a handful of aspects.

On October 22, Mozilla promised to update the Firefox 2.0.0.8 update in order to take care of the problems generated by the refresh. Web-mail users and bloggers know too well the folly of inputting text into a browser window. It’s very easy to close out a session while composing a message, lose everything, and be left scrambling to retype the e-mail or post. Firefox offers a fix. By tweaking the agile browser’s settings, previous sessions are easily restored, complete with form entries.
