We’ve all got our little secrets, personal and private stuff on our computer that we want to keep safe or rather not share with others. But hiding things on a computer can be difficult, especially If you can’t remember where you put it, and encrypted files are a dead giveaway that you have something to hide.

Free Hide Folder is what you need, it simply makes folders and their contents disappear from Windows, so even if someone is snooping around your PC it won’t show up, and what they can’t see they can’t break into. It’s unbelievably easy to use, just set a password, confirm it, specify the folders you want to hide and click OK. The only way to make them appear again is to open Free Hide Folder and enter your password, so just remember to hide the program, or give it a different name. What if you were downloading something late night, but you are feeling sleepy? Most probably, you’ll leave your PC turned on all night and spend more on your power bill. Fortunately, Firefox has a nifty add-on which automatically turns off your PC when you finish downloading, saving both power bill and environment.

The extension adds a checkbox to the download manger and an icon to the status bar. Clicking on the icon or checkbox will turn the auto turn off feature. It doesn’t turn off as soon as all downloads are completed, but instead it has a one minute countdown. However, some dialogues and windows which prompt unsaved document might prevent your PC from turning off. (more…)
