The New Firefox 2.0.0.9 Plays Well with Windows Vista

A new version of Firefox is available for download. On October 19, Mozilla made available an update to its open source browser, taking the version build from 2.0.0.7 to 2.0.0.8. The version numbers are not a clear indication of the evolution between the two Firefox variants. According to Mozilla, over 200 issues impacting the Firefox browser were addressed by the 2.0.0.8 update. However, at the same time, the extent of the modifications introduced by Firefox 2.0.0.8 also affected the functionality of the browser regressing a handful of aspects.

On October 22, Mozilla promised to update the Firefox 2.0.0.8 update in order to take care of the problems generated by the refresh. You will be able to find a complete list with the issues fixed at the bottom of this article. “As part of Mozilla Corporation’s ongoing stability and security update process, Firefox 2.0.0.9 is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux for free download. Tweak Network Settings for Firefox

Firefox has a couple of hidden network settings. With this extension, you can tweak these settings, and you might be able to speed up the loading of web pages. You can also increase the maximum number of simultaneous downloads from a site (the default is only four).

Instead of changing each setting, you can also choose one of two profiles. The Power profile increases the maximum number of connections and turns on pipelining. The Default profile will reset the settings to the save, default values. (more…)

Windows Vista Users in Trouble With the New Firefox

Mozilla rolled out Firefox 2.0.0.8 a few days ago, being a version which was supposed to patch approximately 200 glitches. Although it fixed most of them, it appears that it also caused some others making the application a little buggy. However, Mike Beltzner of Mozilla wrote on the company’s blog that Firefox 2.0.0.9 is currently in labs and might be released next week for all the users. The matter can be called “an update to fix the update” because the new patches will be released to repair the fixes which were launched a few days ago.

“The 2.0.0.8 release fixed some 200 issues, but accidentally regressed a few things. Most users won’t see any difference or experience any problems, and those 200 fixes make the 2.0.0.8 update very valuable, but you should never have to choose functionality over security. (more…)
