Assomiglia ad Apple sta rintracciando i dati degli utenti di iPhone compreso il numero di IMEI, il IP address e le preferenze di citazione delle azione (fra altre cose) attraverso una stringa nascosta applicazioni in iPhone di Stocks.app e di Weather.app. Queste informazioni sono trasmesse “a http://iphone-wu.apple.com/dgw?imei=%@&apptype=finance„ (“″ di 17.254.32.16) risolto IP. Da queste informazioni, Apple ha potuto sviluppare un profilo sugli utenti. Dove viaggiano, dove spendono il loro tempo libero, dove funzionano, dove investono i loro soldi, che cosa passano in rassegna, ecc ecc. La maggior parte dei utenti vorrebbero ovviamente potere controllare chi ha accesso a queste informazioni. Se collegano questi dati con la carta di credito che avete usato comprare il iPhone (si ricordano di, voi non possono usare i contanti più), potrebbero sviluppargli un profilo ancora più grande.

Three Windows Vista non-security updates, that had originally been released as hotfixes, and then released as full fledged updates for download, will finally be pushed through Windows Update. As mentioned by the Windows Vista Blog, these updates will eventually become part of Vista’s SP1, but if you don’t want to wait for the benefits they offer, the update will be pushed to you this Tuesday, the 13th.

Here’s what will be coming through Windows Update:

• An update on system compatibility, reliability and stability: extends the battery life for mobile devices, improves stability of wireless network services, and shortens recovery time after Windows Vista experiences a period of inactivity, among other fixes.
• An update to USB core components: mainly affects systems returning from sleep or hibernation, fixing problems causing 1-2% of all crashes reported.
• An update to Windows Media Center: among other things, affects interaction issues occurring between Media Center PC and Microsoft Xbox 360 when Xbox 360 is used as a Media Center Extender.

When you use a program that tries to bind to TCP network ports on a Windows-based computer, you may receive the following Winsock error message:

Congress is pushing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to develop energy efficiency measures for data centers, especially servers. But IBM is impatient: Computerworld notes IBM has signed up Neuwing Energy Ventures, a company trading in energy efficiency certificates, in a first for “green” computing. Now if your company consolidates, say, X86 servers onto an IBM mainframe on top of slashing about 85% off your electric bill each megawatt-hour saved earns one certificate. Then you can sell the certificates in emerging carbon trading markets. IBM’s own consolidation project (collapsing 3,900 distributed servers onto 30 mainframes) will net certificates worth between $300K and $1M, depending on carbon’s market price. Will ubiquitous carbon trading discourage energy-inefficient, distributed-style infrastructure in favor of highly virtualized and I/O-savvy environments, particularly mainframes?”
