Using Gmail to Filter Spam On Existing Mail Accounts

Spam sucks. We all know that. The question is how to stop it. Those of us who use Google’s Gmail have very little spam problem. Google’s spam filtering is VERY good. When I was using Outlook as my mail client, I was using the paid Cloudmark plug-in to defeat spam. It beats the hell out of the built-in spam filtering on ANY mail client. I really never understood the draw of background images or stationery in email messages. Other than allowing you to inject a bit of individuality into a message, what purpose does it really server? I personally find them typically distracting, not so much the images themselves, but the content chosen. Some are elegant and pleasing to look at, but some are just plain distracting. (more…)

Firefox Security Flaw Affecting Gmail’s Users

Last week, security companies around the world spotted a new vulnerability in Mozilla Firefox which could allow the attackers to use a malicious JAR file to harm users’ computers. The security flaw is still there and moreover, it seems it affects most websites on the Internet including the super search giant Google. GnuCitizien wrote that Michal Zalewski from Google (you know, that famous hacker who joined Googleplex) required additional information about a potential exploitation over the company’s technologies. In addition, beford.org discovered a way to steal the Gmail contact list using a malicious JAR file especially created to take advantage of the Firefox vulnerability. (more…)
