The New Firefox 2.0.0.9 Plays Well with Windows Vista

A new version of Firefox is available for download. On October 19, Mozilla made available an update to its open source browser, taking the version build from 2.0.0.7 to 2.0.0.8. The version numbers are not a clear indication of the evolution between the two Firefox variants. According to Mozilla, over 200 issues impacting the Firefox browser were addressed by the 2.0.0.8 update. However, at the same time, the extent of the modifications introduced by Firefox 2.0.0.8 also affected the functionality of the browser regressing a handful of aspects.

On October 22, Mozilla promised to update the Firefox 2.0.0.8 update in order to take care of the problems generated by the refresh. You will be able to find a complete list with the issues fixed at the bottom of this article. “As part of Mozilla Corporation’s ongoing stability and security update process, Firefox 2.0.0.9 is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux for free download. Internet Explorer 7 Is an Open Door for Attacks

Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 is nothing short of an open door for attacks. Microsoft informed that it is currently investigating a remote code execution vulnerability in various versions of XP and Windows Server 2003 running Internet Explorer 7. The Redmond company added that Windows Vista users are safe, although the operating system comes with IE7 built in by default. Windows XP SP2, XP Professional x64 Edition, Professional x64 Edition SP2; Windows Server 2003 SP1 and SP2, Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition and SP2 and Windows Server 2003 with SP1 for Itanium-based Systems and Windows Server 2003 with SP2 for Itanium-based Systems are all vulnerable to the security flaw, provided they are running IE7. The vulnerability is related to the way the Windows operating system handles Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs). (more…)

Repairing Windows XP causes Internet Explorer 7 to fail

If you perform a repair installation of Windows XP, you must first insure that you uninstall Internet Explorer 7 first. Otherwise, once the repair installation is complete, Internet Explorer 7 will no longer function. The reason this happens is because the repair installation will not restore earlier versions of the files in the Program files\Internet Explorer folder. This will make IE7 incompatible with the IE6 files that are installed in the Windows\System32 folder.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7, follow the instructions below: (more…)

Internet Explorer 7 in Vista Plays Catch with Errors

The Internet Explorer 7 browser ships by default with Windows Vista, and although Microsoft is also delivering stand-alone versions via installers designed for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, the browser’s integration with Vista is touted among the apexes of security measures from all the mitigations Microsoft built into the platform. Still, when IE7 hit the market in October 2006 for XP, and later in January 2007 with Vista, it did deliver some compatibility issues. And even one month short of its one year anniversary on XP, and after Vista’s first seven months on the market, IE7 doesn’t play well with others. But in this context, Internet Explorer is not entirely to blame. Sometimes, the fault lies with web developers, failing to optimize their websites for Microsoft’s browser. (more…)
