I’ve switched my default browser to Apple Safari

image

Following the footsteps of Sahil Malik, I tried Safari for real and got impressed and got switched as well. The cool thing I like the most on Safari is its font rendering. For the most part you won’t make out big differences but on many instances I was able to and that got dragged me into this. Of course, there is the “Speed of Safari”. You’ve got to try it to believe it. Most of the pages are a lot faster than what it used to take to load those pages on Firefox and IE. Even though I miss some of the cool add-ons on Firefox I think I can live with Safari for the most part and when in need of those add-ons I can switch to Firefox which I think would be minimal.

So, what is your default browser? Any idea of switching? If not, what holds you?

Download Safari 3.1 from here.

EXECUTE permission denied on object ’sp_sdidebug’, database ‘master’, owner ‘dbo’.

I got this error from one of my ASP.NET web services when I tried to fetch some data from a remote database. I tried searching online for a possible fix to this issue but found none to be convincing and so thought of publishing the solution that resolved the issue.

Please note that this solution may only be effective if you are debugging your ASP.NET page/web service and are manually attaching the worker process.

1. Attach to the worker process.

2. With the aspnet_wp.exe highlighted hit the “Select…” button at the top right hand side.

You will get the “Select Code Type” dialog with the “Automatically determine the type of code to debug” selected. Now for ASP.NET to use the “Managed” code type by checking the “Managed” checkbox.

Try it again and it should work without the “EXECUTE permission denied on object ’sp_sdidebug’, database ‘master’, owner ‘dbo’.” error.

Hope it helps. Let me know of any issues or alternate solutions in comments.

Unpublished Microsoft Interviewing Tips

Chris Sells, one of my favorite Microsoftie, puts out 6 bulleted list of unpublished tips on getting interviewed at Microsoft. Here are those at a glimpse,

  • Your interviewer cares most about 1) how you think and 2) what you feel, so be vocal about both.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask clarifying questions.
  • Let the interviewer know how you feel about the job.
  • Answer questions from your own experiences.
  • You have to like us, too.
  • Don’t talk about money during the interview.

You can read the details of these bullet points from here. You can also read his “Published Microsoft Interviewing Tips” from here
