EasyBCD 1.7.1 Released!

EasyBCD 1.7.1 has just hit the press, our caching engines have been activated, and we’re ready for you to come and get it!

EasyBCD 1.7.1 is a bugfix build that fixes a couple of bugs and improves some other aspects of the program:

  • Compatible with the new Wubi Gutsy Gibbon releases.
  • EasyBCD now warns users if NTLDR or Bootsect.dos was not found in the process of adding a XP or 9x entry.
  • The WinPE section has been completely overhauled… under the hood. No more delays, just raw, sheer performance to match the speed of WinPE 2.0 itself.
  • Rewritten (no longer caches responses) update checker.

Introducing the EasyBCD Debug Toolkit (and the EasyBCD 1.7.1 Beta)

Just a quick heads-up: EasyBCD 1.7.1 has entered the beta stage and can be grabbed at the usual beta builds thread.

EasyBCD 1.7.1 is a bugfix build that addresses two issues that have come up since our (most stable release ever!) 1.7 final a couple of months back. Perhaps you’ll find our new EasyBCD 1.7.1 Debug Toolkit to be of greater interest, though.

The all-new EasyBCD Debug Toolkit is a way to “trick” EasyBCD into seeing a system configuration that’s not really there. You just run EasyBCD with a command-line switch (/debugbcd and /debugbp) and you can then have it use fake info (in the form of a text file containing the stdout dump you’d like EasyBCD to see) instead of actually checking your current system configuration and going by those settings instead.

Server Move Completed - NeoSmart Technologies Fully Optimized!

We’ve been working on moving to a new server all week, and we’ve just finished the transition. Best of all, we’ve switched to the new servers without any downtime in-between. Our new server is a 1.86 GHz Core 2 Duo and with 3GB of DDR2 RAM - all thanks to the awesome guys and gals at Lunarpages, the best host there is.

A lot of work has gone into this transition in hopes of raising the performance - and more importantly, the reliability - of our server. In the past year (since we first started our hosting with LP), we’ve gone from several million hits a month to dozens of millions, and our old server took quite a hit. To that end, we’ve focused on deploying lightweight and highly-optimized code all around; hopefully there will be no more un-expected downtime… ever.

Our current software setup is very complicated, but hopefully it’ll take us all the way to 0.00 minutes of downtime - that’s our goal! We have multiple application servers and programs running in the background each doing what they best - instead of the traditional have-the-web-server-do-it-all way. At the moment, we currently have a software stack comprising of a tightly-knit mesh of these products:

XCache and eAccelerator Plugins for WordPress

In this episode of “The Never-Ending Quest for Better Server Performance,” we follow our heroes’ journey through the dangerous and murky woods of PHP opcode caching engines, where they aren’t content with just installing an opcode caching engine, but <gasp> becoming one with it too!

Yep, you heard that right. We’ve just released two new plugins for the WordPress users out there, that take opcode caching to the next level. If you haven’t already installed an opcode caching engine like XCache (our favorite!), eAccelerator, Turck MMcache, Memcached, APC, or PHPA then you really need to do that right now before even continuing this article. Really, what were you waiting for!?

EasyBCD 1.7 Released & Up for Download!

Go and grab yourself a fresh, hot, right-out-of-the-compiler copy of EasyBCD 1.7 before your old bootloader realizes what hit it! Another release of EasyBCD is now available after months of beta testing and - in true NeoSmart fashion - brings dozens of new features and innovative ideas to the table; this time with even more versatility than ever.

Yes, there was a name change. Those of you keeping track of our beta builds are almost certainly wondering what happened to EasyBCD 1.61. To be totally honest here, it was supposed to be released 4 months ago - soon after the 1.6 release back in May. But we got caught up adding a couple of tiny features here and there, and before we knew it, we had a full-blown new version at our hands and not knowing what to do with it - so it’s just shipped as EasyBCD 1.7.

Want to support further development of EasyBCD? What are you waiting for, the donation tracker is right there to the right!

iReboot 1.0 Released

NeoSmart Technologies is proud to announce the release of iReboot 1.0 - our first “helper app” for EasyBCD. iReboot is a minimalistic (taking up only 400KB of memory!) taskbar utility that lets you intelligently choose which operating system you’d like to reboot into.

iReboot interfaces with the Vista BCD (so the Vista bootloader is a requirement) and sets the operating system your PC will boot into the next time you restart. Instead of pressing Start | Shutdown | Restart and waiting 10 minutes for Windows to shutdown, your BIOS to post, then racing to select the right operating system from the bootloader before it times out; you just install iReboot, right-click your taskbar and pick the OS you want to boot into - then go out, get a cup of coffee, come back and find it already there.

iReboot, like all other NeoSmart Technologies’ projects and services, is freeware. If you’d like to donate to ensure continued development and help us cover our mounting expenses, please do so (the donation tracker is right there in the sidebar).

And, without further ado, the download link:
