Launch PS2 .ELF Files with Swap Magic v3.8 on PS3!

A way to launch Swap Magic 3.8 on European v1.90 PS3 (no emotion engine) has been discovered. Although no PS2 ISO’s are playable its a pretty cool discovery but don’t get your hopes just yet, it’s still only a small discovery, but its also a small step to MAYBE something big.

And for those interested this is how it is done:

  • Create on a USB/Flash drive a folder named SWAPMAGIC
  • Place the .ELF file (of choice) in the SWAPMAGIC folder on USB/Flash drive, and RENAMEthe ELF file you just inserted to SMBOOT0.ELF.
  • Insert the USB/Flash drive in your PS3 USB port.
  • Insert your SWAP MAGIC CODER 3.8 CD, when it launches go to SMBOOT in the menu, and select SMBOOT 0 to run the .ELF.

Bypass Content Restriction Method Found on PS3

People have been testing and working on the TIFF Exploit that surfaced last weekend and it has resulted in a method to bypass content restriction without using the password.

Just wanted to report that the Exploit also works for me (1.90, EU)
and I also tried to play Resistance with the Security System on Level 7. So
insert Rainbow Six: Vegas, open the folder with the TIFF inside, start the game,
swap the discs and then remove the Memory Stick. Nothing special but it works.

Another user also confirmed this method, using diffrent games;

  • Set my machine to content 5 and below only
  • Game NFS Carbon = 5
  • Game Fight Night Round3 = 7
  • View Tiff
  • Start Carbon - Game will freeze as we knew about before
  • Eject Carbon
  • Insert game you are not allowed to play (Fight Night)
  • Game will start and bypass content restriction.

Here are some proof of concept videos;
