You can selectively restrict access to few apps and file names. To do this, open registry and navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer Now look for a subkey by the name DisallowRun. Within this key, add many string keys you like each mapped to an application or file that you want to be restricted.

When you right click on any folder, you can have access to that application, the same as using
Sent To and New. Open Registry Editor. Navigate and choose:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell. Add a new Key to the “Shelley and name
it anything you like. Give it a default value that will appear when you right click a
folder, i.e. NewKey (use an mp;ithout the quotes, in front of any character and it
will allow you to use the keyboard). Navigate and click on the registry key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\NewKey. Now you have to add a New Key
named Command and Set the (Default) value of the application you want to run. For
example: c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (Include the full path)

A common security concern at organizations is allowing users to plug in a usb flash drive, because they could so easily copy corporate data.
Since Windows XP SP2, you can disable writing to USB devices altogether using a simple registry hack. Here it is:

Actually there are several methods to backup Windows registry. Some of them, I’m discussing in this article.

Method 1: Using System Restore

When we create a system restore point in Windows XP, it backs up the following items:

• Registry
• DllCache
• Local User Profile
• COM+ and WMI databases
• IIS Metabase

So if you want to backup the registry, creating a restore point is the safest way to do so. To create a restore point go to Start t; All Programs t; Accessories t; System Tools t; System Restore. Create a system restore point from there.

Medhod 2: Backing up Individual registry keys

If you want to backup individual registry keys, go to Start t; Run t; regedit
This will open the registry editor. Go to the registry you want to backup, right click it and select Export.

Method 3: Backing up the whole registry

To backup the whole registry, go to Start t; Run t; regedit
This will open the registry editor. Go to File t; Export. This will open the save registry dialog. After the name, select “Allrom Export Range and save the registry.
