Check Disk (chkdsk) Runs Every Time Windows Starts

disable-chkdsk-at-boot Sometimes it happens that disk check always starts to check the file system on one or more drives for consistency. If any key is pressed, the disk checking is aborted. Actually this is because some data structure of the drive or some file is corrupted which can not be recovered and check disk is always run at Windows startup. Or sometimes it may take several hours for disk checking to scan all the drives. So disabling it or postponing disk check is better. There are several methods to disable disk checking at Windows startup. Two of them are given below:

Method 1: Using CHKNTFS utility

CHKNTFS is a utility that has been developed by Microsoft to disable disk checking on certain drives at Windows startup. To use this utility go to Start –> Run –> cmd.

If you want to disable check disk on C: drive, use the following command on command prompt.

chkntfs /X C:

If you want to disable check disk on two or more drives, just keep on adding the drives:

chkntfs /X C: D: E:

This will disable check disk on C, D and E

Share Internet Connection Between Windows Vista and XP

You have a Windows Vista computer that’s connected to the broadband internet via a ADSL modem or router. This article helps you how to share your Windows Vista computer’s broadband internet connection (turning first computer into a router) with a Windows XP computer which is connected to the first computer, in your house or office without using additional network router’s or even a network switch in some cases. Also you might be interested in sharing the single broadband internet connection between the two computers rather than using separate internet connections for each computer, which is quite costly.

For the internet connection sharing we want two computers A and B. The first computer, A runs on Microsoft Windows Vista and the second computer, B runs on Microsoft Windows XP.Computer A is connected to the broadband Internet through a router, so this computer will need an additional LAN card. Create a Keyboard Shortcut to Access Hidden Desktop Icons and Files

Most of us like me love to keep the icons and some files in the desktop for quick access but ironically I love a clean desktop too. But there is a simple tweak without any additional tool to get the best of both worlds, you can hide the desktop icons & files and create a custom keyboard shortcut to access those icons and files.

Step 1: Hide the desktop icons and files.

Right click on the Desktop, go to View and uncheck the option Show Desktop Icons. Now you will have a clean desktop.

Step 2: Create a Desktop shortcut to open Desktop Folder.

All the items in the desktop are stored in the folder under your user name. Click on Start button –> (your username) –> Desktop folder.

How to share a keyboard and mouse between two computers

Method 1: Input Director

Input Director is a windows-exclusive program that allows you to control more than one computer without using more than one keyboard and mouse. With input director, you simply control both computers with the keyboard and mouse, and press a certain hotkey to change which computer you would like to control.

Input Director

You can either use the hotkey method, or just move the cursor off the screen, and it will appear on the other computer, allowing you to use the keyboard for that one instead.

My favorite feature about input director, is the ‘clipboard’ feature. This feature allows you to copy something from one computer, and paste it on another computer. It’s very handy. Also, please note that the only systems that currently support Input Director are Windows 2000 (SP4), Windows XP (SP2) or Windows Vista. And may I please remind you that, the computers you wish to control simultaneously must be networked.

To download Input Director, go here http://www.inputdirector.com/downloads.html.

Method 2: Synergy

Synergy is very similar to Input Director, but is just as good. A nice little feature about Synergy is that it can
