Video Tutorials on Metacafe

I’ve got a lot of requests lately to publish video tutorials on my site.
Since this site revolves around my work as a Network Administrator I do not have a lot of time to make them (I can make blog postings at work, that is allowed) but I can not make video tutorials at my work.

But I’m going to create video tutorials anyway, but I will make them at home.

The first one will be about installing windows 2008 on a vmware server.
I’m currently editing that one so expect the video here soon.

Project Gotham Racing 4 “Skid Art”

Remember the video of a Ferrari crashing (lightly) when filming the new Project Gotham Racing 4 advertisement from a few months back? Well here’s the final version of the ad for PGR4 which features the non-crashing version of the stunt. Notably the company behind the visual effects, Method Studios, also produced the recent jaw-dropping Halo 3 “Believe” videos.

If anyone’s interested in the “making-of”, a few YouTube videos from bystanders have surfaced showing exactly what happened on the road.

Believe. I do I do.

Well the wait is over for Halo 3, the ad that is. Named “Diorama”, it features a theoretical but ‘real’ monument created in the year 2607, on exhibit in the (imaginary) Museum of Humanity. Crafted by historians (artists) to pay tribute (make an ad) to the greatest of heroes, Master Chief Petty Officer John-117. I’ll just leave the figurines to do the talking. Check out the Flash version below or the original HD version.

Oh yes, how freaking cool is that. And yes, that is a real miniature model crafted by real people. I’m not sure how they can achieve the flame or smoke effects, but it’s pretty much one of the most detailed models I’ve seen. You can explore it in much more detail on the site, as well as see the following (fake) “making-of“.

The creative strategy is very unique, but is the result better than Gears of War’s award-winning “Mad World“? I don’t speak for everybody, but definitely a contender.

Windows Vista UI design spoof video

Making spoof videos would definitely top the list of talents by Microsoft employees. Here’s a dated but rare video staring the infamous (and now disbanded) MSX design team who worked on the Windows Codename Longhorn project.

This time they poke fun at the user experience decision making process for Longhorn, what would become Windows Vista. Starring from left to right, Tjeerd Hoek - design director for Windows, Greg Melander - visual design lead for Longhorn; Cees van Dok - lead product designer; Mark Ligameri - design manager & creative director for Longhorn; and Chris Guzak - senior architect for Windows.
