Τους πόρους της Microsoft που στρέφονται σχεδόν αποκλειστικά να τυλίξουν επάνω το Vista παραθύρων πελάτη, και που καθυστερούν έπειτα ακόμη μια φορά στο 2008, με την προθεσμία που τίθεται μέχρι το καλοκαίρι αυτού του έτους, το πακέτο 3 υπηρεσιών παραθύρων XP είναι μακριούς υπερήμερους, και συγχρόνως στα τελικά στάδια ανάπτυξής του. Στο τέλος της Δεκεμβρίου 2007, η επιχείρηση Redmond άνοιξε την εξεταστική διαδικασία SP3 XP και για μεταφορτώστε έναν δημόσιο υποψήφιο απελευθέρωσης. Η αυτόνομη συσκευασία αναπροσαρμογών για το πακέτο που 3 υπηρεσιών παραθύρων XP υποψήφιος απελευθέρωσης ζυγίζουν μέσα σε ακριβώς 336.1 ΜΒ και έπεσαν μέσω της Microsoft μεταφορτώνει το κέντρο.

Όπως ήταν αναμενόμενο, αν και ήταν βουβό για το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του 2007 και Vista παραθύρων SP1 και SP3 παραθύρων XP, η επιχείρηση Redmond ευνοεί, από άποψη κοινοποίηση πληροφοριών, ο πιό πρώην πελάτης παραθύρων της. Αρχική στο τέλος του 2007, η Microsoft κατόρθωσε να γίνει εξαιρετικά φλύαρη για Vista SP1. Όχι τόσο μεγάλο μέρος για SP3 XP. Ο λόγος είναι φυσικά κατανοητός. Τώρα που είναι Vista στα ράφια, η Microsoft εστιάζει στην επόμενη σημαντική απελευθέρωση λειτουργικών συστημάτων της, παράθυρα Βιέννη. Ακόμα κι αν τα παράθυρα Βιέννη πρόκειται να είναι μια σημαντική απελευθέρωση με ένα συνολικά αναθεωρημένο GUI, η Microsoft έκανε μια τολμηρή δήλωση: μέχρι το τέλος του 2009 η Βιέννη θα χτυπήσει τα ράφια.
However, Microsoft needs to keep the buzz on Windows Vista for now and so they are not releasing any Windows Vienna official information to the public yet, expect for the fact that they are working on it.
Julie Larson-Green, responsible for the user interface of Office 2007, and also the person behind the ribbon-like interface has been transferred to the Windows 7 team.

The current release date of the Windows 7 operating system is expected to be in late 2009, early 2010, returning to the 3-year pause between desktop operating system versions that was common at Microsoft for all Windows versions prior to Windows Vista.

The most common dilema about Windows 7 right now is whether or not to use backward compatibility. Strong rumours have suggested that the OS will be developed from scratch on top…

For the end users, be them in the home or in the corporate environments, the road to Windows 7 (Seven) leads more or less to Windows Vista. But for Microsoft, there is an entirely different path altogether.

The fact of the matter is that, as far as the development efforts are concerned, Vista is a wrapped up chapter. The Redmond company has already begun moving forward. Of course that Microsoft too will have intermediary stages on its way to Windows 7.

A couple of them as a matter of fact in the coming year, with the availability of the first service pack for Windows Vista and the third and final service pack for Windows XP. Currently, Vista SP1 is planned for the first quarter of 2008, following the availability of Windows Server 2008, formerly code-named Longhorn, because of the shared kernel version. XP SP3 has a more relaxed launch date, as Microsoft is focusing on Vista. The third refresh for XP will be made available by mid 2008.

News of the next version of Windows, due out in 2010 and previously known as BlackCombe, then Vienna and now Windows 7 has been fairly thin on the ground since we last mentioned it back in July but a few more tantalising tid-bits have come our way recently.
