Les ressources de Microsoft se sont concentrées presque exclusivement sur s'envelopper vers le haut du client de Windows Vista, et alors ont retardé encore une fois dans 2008, avec la date-limite fixée d'ici l'été de cette année, le paquet 3 de service de Windows XP est longtemps en retard, et en même temps à ses étapes finales du développement. À la fin du décembre 2007, la compagnie de Redmond a ouvert le processus de essai de XP SP3 et a fait disponible pour le téléchargement un candidat public de dégagement. Le paquet autonome de mise à jour pour le candidat de dégagement du paquet 3 de service de Windows XP pèse dedans juste à 336.1 mb et a été lâché par l'intermédiaire du centre de téléchargement de Microsoft.

Pas étonnamment, bien qu'elle ait été muette pour la plupart de 2007 sur Windows Vista SP1 et Windows XP SP3, la compagnie de Redmond favorise, en termes de révélation de l'information, son plus défunt client de Windows. Commençant la fin de 2007, Microsoft est parvenu à devenir extrêmement bavard au sujet de Vista SP1. Pas tellement au sujet de XP SP3. La raison est naturellement compréhensible. Maintenant que Vista est sur les étagères, Microsoft se concentre sur son prochain dégagement principal de logiciel d'exploitation, Windows Vienne. Quoique Windows Vienne aille être un dégagement important avec un GUI totalement révisé, Microsoft a fait un rapport audacieux : vers la fin de 2009 Vienne frappera les étagères.
However, Microsoft needs to keep the buzz on Windows Vista for now and so they are not releasing any Windows Vienna official information to the public yet, expect for the fact that they are working on it.
Julie Larson-Green, responsible for the user interface of Office 2007, and also the person behind the ribbon-like interface has been transferred to the Windows 7 team.

The current release date of the Windows 7 operating system is expected to be in late 2009, early 2010, returning to the 3-year pause between desktop operating system versions that was common at Microsoft for all Windows versions prior to Windows Vista.

The most common dilema about Windows 7 right now is whether or not to use backward compatibility. Strong rumours have suggested that the OS will be developed from scratch on top…

For the end users, be them in the home or in the corporate environments, the road to Windows 7 (Seven) leads more or less to Windows Vista. But for Microsoft, there is an entirely different path altogether.

The fact of the matter is that, as far as the development efforts are concerned, Vista is a wrapped up chapter. The Redmond company has already begun moving forward. Of course that Microsoft too will have intermediary stages on its way to Windows 7.

A couple of them as a matter of fact in the coming year, with the availability of the first service pack for Windows Vista and the third and final service pack for Windows XP. Currently, Vista SP1 is planned for the first quarter of 2008, following the availability of Windows Server 2008, formerly code-named Longhorn, because of the shared kernel version. XP SP3 has a more relaxed launch date, as Microsoft is focusing on Vista. The third refresh for XP will be made available by mid 2008.

News of the next version of Windows, due out in 2010 and previously known as BlackCombe, then Vienna and now Windows 7 has been fairly thin on the ground since we last mentioned it back in July but a few more tantalising tid-bits have come our way recently.
