Le risorse di Microsoft hanno messo a fuoco quasi esclusivamente sullo spostamento sul cliente di Windows Vista ed allora fanno ritardare ancora una volta in 2008, con la scadenza fissata prima dell'estate di questo anno, il pacchetto 3 di servizio di Windows XP è lungamente in ritardo ed allo stesso tempo nelle relative fasi finali di sviluppo. Alla conclusione del dicembre 2007, l'azienda di Redmond ha aperto il processo difficile di XP SP3 ed ha reso disponibile per il trasferimento dal sistema centrale verso i satelliti un candidato pubblico del rilascio. Il pacchetto autonomo dell'aggiornamento per il candidato del rilascio del pacchetto 3 di servizio di Windows XP pesa dentro a appena 336.1 mb ed è stato caduto via il centro di trasferimento dal sistema centrale verso i satelliti di Microsoft.

Non sorprendentemente, anche se era muta per la maggior parte di 2007 sia su Windows Vista SP1 che su Windows XP SP3, l'azienda di Redmond sta favorendo, in termini di rilevazione delle informazioni, il relativo ultimo cliente di Windows. Cominciando alla fine di 2007, Microsoft è riuscito a diventare estremamente chatty circa Vista SP1. Non così tanto circa XP SP3. Il motivo è naturalmente comprensibile. Ora che Vista è sulle mensole, Microsoft sta mettendo a fuoco sul relativo rilascio principale seguente del sistema operativo, Windows Vienna. Anche se Windows Vienna sta andando essere un rilascio importante con un GUI completamente modificato, Microsoft ha rilasciato una dichiarazione GRASSETTO: per la fine di 2009 Vienna colpirà le mensole.
However, Microsoft needs to keep the buzz on Windows Vista for now and so they are not releasing any Windows Vienna official information to the public yet, expect for the fact that they are working on it.
Julie Larson-Green, responsible for the user interface of Office 2007, and also the person behind the ribbon-like interface has been transferred to the Windows 7 team.

The current release date of the Windows 7 operating system is expected to be in late 2009, early 2010, returning to the 3-year pause between desktop operating system versions that was common at Microsoft for all Windows versions prior to Windows Vista.

The most common dilema about Windows 7 right now is whether or not to use backward compatibility. Strong rumours have suggested that the OS will be developed from scratch on top…

For the end users, be them in the home or in the corporate environments, the road to Windows 7 (Seven) leads more or less to Windows Vista. But for Microsoft, there is an entirely different path altogether.

The fact of the matter is that, as far as the development efforts are concerned, Vista is a wrapped up chapter. The Redmond company has already begun moving forward. Of course that Microsoft too will have intermediary stages on its way to Windows 7.

A couple of them as a matter of fact in the coming year, with the availability of the first service pack for Windows Vista and the third and final service pack for Windows XP. Currently, Vista SP1 is planned for the first quarter of 2008, following the availability of Windows Server 2008, formerly code-named Longhorn, because of the shared kernel version. XP SP3 has a more relaxed launch date, as Microsoft is focusing on Vista. The third refresh for XP will be made available by mid 2008.

News of the next version of Windows, due out in 2010 and previously known as BlackCombe, then Vienna and now Windows 7 has been fairly thin on the ground since we last mentioned it back in July but a few more tantalising tid-bits have come our way recently.
