Not surprisingly, although it was mute for the most part of 2007 on both Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3, the Redmond company is favoring, in terms of information disclosure, its latest Windows client. Starting at the end of 2007, Microsoft managed to become extremely chatty about Vista SP1. Not so much about XP SP3. The reason is of course understandable. Vista, made available but a year ago, is pushed to the foreground, with XP left to eXPire in the background. (more¡¦)

Now that Vista is on the shelves, Microsoft is focusing on its next major operating system release, Windows Vienna. Even though Windows Vienna is going to be a major release with a totally revised GUI, Microsoft made a bold statement: by the end of 2009 Vienna will hit the shelves.
However, Microsoft needs to keep the buzz on Windows Vista for now and so they are not releasing any Windows Vienna official information to the public yet, expect for the fact that they are working on it.
Julie Larson-Green, responsible for the user interface of Office 2007, and also the person behind the ribbon-like interface has been transferred to the Windows 7 team.
The current release date of the Windows 7 operating system is expected to be in late 2009, early 2010, returning to the 3-year pause between desktop operating system versions that was common at Microsoft for all Windows versions prior to Windows Vista.
The most common dilema about Windows 7 right now is whether or not to use backward compatibility. Strong rumours have suggested that the OS will be developed from scratch on top¡¦

For the end users, be them in the home or in the corporate environments, the road to Windows 7 (Seven) leads more or less to Windows Vista. But for Microsoft, there is an entirely different path altogether.
The fact of the matter is that, as far as the development efforts are concerned, Vista is a wrapped up chapter. The Redmond company has already begun moving forward. Of course that Microsoft too will have intermediary stages on its way to Windows 7.
A couple of them as a matter of fact in the coming year, with the availability of the first service pack for Windows Vista and the third and final service pack for Windows XP. Currently, Vista SP1 is planned for the first quarter of 2008, following the availability of Windows Server 2008, formerly code-named Longhorn, because of the shared kernel version. XP SP3 has a more relaxed launch date, as Microsoft is focusing on Vista. The third refresh for XP will be made available by mid 2008.
At the same time, Microsoft is also beginning to build the contours of Windows 7. Seven (7) is the label of Steven Sinofsky, the senior vice president for¡¦

News of the next version of Windows, due out in 2010 and previously known as BlackCombe, then Vienna and now Windows 7 has been fairly thin on the ground since we last mentioned it back in July but a few more tantalising tid-bits have come our way recently.
As expected it marks a significant change in direction for Microsoft with the emphasis on small, and compact and it has already been dubbed ‘MinWin•â. According to one report the Windows 7 core or ‘kernel•â, does away with all the fangly bits we associate with Vista and XP, (more¡¦)
