De middelen van Microsoft die bijna uitsluitend bij omhoog het verpakken van de cliënt van het Uitzicht van Vensters worden geconcentreerd, en die nogmaals dan in 2008 worden vertraagd, met de uiterste termijn die door de zomer van dit jaar wordt geplaatst, Pak 3 van de Dienst van Vensters XP is lange achterstallig, en tezelfdertijd in zijn definitieve stadia van ontwikkeling. Begin December 2007, stelde het bedrijf Redmond het testende proces van SP3 XP open en stelde voor download een openbare Kandidaat van de Versie ter beschikking. Het Standalone Pakket van de Update voor Pak 3 van de Dienst van Vensters XP de Kandidaat van de Versie weegt binnen bij enkel 336.1 MB en via het Centrum van de Download van Microsoft gelaten vallen.

Zoals te verwachten, hoewel het grotendeels van 2007 op zowel SP1 van het Uitzicht van Vensters als SP3 van Vensters XP stod was, keurt het bedrijf Redmond, in termen van informatieonthulling, zijn recentste cliënt van Vensters goed. Beginnend aan het eind van 2007, slaagde Microsoft uiterst praatziek over SP1 van het Uitzicht te worden erin. Niet zo veel over SP3 XP. De reden is natuurlijk begrijpelijk. Nu het Uitzicht op de planken is, concentreert Microsoft zich op zijn volgende belangrijke werkend systeemversie, Vensters Wenen. Alhoewel de Vensters Wenen een belangrijke versie met een totaal herziene GUI gaat zijn, legde Microsoft een gewaagde verklaring af: tegen eind 2009 zal Wenen de planken raken.
However, Microsoft needs to keep the buzz on Windows Vista for now and so they are not releasing any Windows Vienna official information to the public yet, expect for the fact that they are working on it.
Julie Larson-Green, responsible for the user interface of Office 2007, and also the person behind the ribbon-like interface has been transferred to the Windows 7 team.

The current release date of the Windows 7 operating system is expected to be in late 2009, early 2010, returning to the 3-year pause between desktop operating system versions that was common at Microsoft for all Windows versions prior to Windows Vista.

The most common dilema about Windows 7 right now is whether or not to use backward compatibility. Strong rumours have suggested that the OS will be developed from scratch on top…

For the end users, be them in the home or in the corporate environments, the road to Windows 7 (Seven) leads more or less to Windows Vista. But for Microsoft, there is an entirely different path altogether.

The fact of the matter is that, as far as the development efforts are concerned, Vista is a wrapped up chapter. The Redmond company has already begun moving forward. Of course that Microsoft too will have intermediary stages on its way to Windows 7.

A couple of them as a matter of fact in the coming year, with the availability of the first service pack for Windows Vista and the third and final service pack for Windows XP. Currently, Vista SP1 is planned for the first quarter of 2008, following the availability of Windows Server 2008, formerly code-named Longhorn, because of the shared kernel version. XP SP3 has a more relaxed launch date, as Microsoft is focusing on Vista. The third refresh for XP will be made available by mid 2008.

News of the next version of Windows, due out in 2010 and previously known as BlackCombe, then Vienna and now Windows 7 has been fairly thin on the ground since we last mentioned it back in July but a few more tantalising tid-bits have come our way recently.
