Enabling the Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED bits

In order to get started using your brand-new Dell (PRODUCT) RED PC right out of the box, you will need to enable a few things in order for the Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED bits such as the Sidebar Gadgets and Windows DreamScene to run. In the following video - I show you exactly what you need to do to view the awesome (PRODUCT) RED Sidebar Gadgets as well as the (PRODUCT) RED DreamScene.

As shown in the video, in order to utilize Windows Sidebar I first needed to deactivate Google Sidebar.

My preference is Windows Sidebar anyway - especially with the all the gadgets I run. After I deactivated Google Sidebar and got Windows Sidebar running, I needed to install the (PRODUCT) RED gadgets which are located in the following directory on your Dell (PRODUCT) RED PC:

C:\dell\red\Recovery\Gadgets\Vista\

Once the (PRODUCT) RED Sidebar Gadgets are installed, I was able to use the Gadget Picker in Windows Sidebar to add them (although they appear

A look at the Windows DreamScene Content Pack Favorites

Earlier today, Nick and Barry announced the release of the Ultimate Extra Windows DreamScene. Windows DreamScene lets Windows Vista Ultimate users choose full-motion video as their desktop wallpaper.

After installing the final release of Windows DreamScene, I was prompted to download the Windows DreamScene Content Pack Favorites. With Windows DreamScene, you get a standard set of 4 DreamScenes to use on your desktop. The Windows DreamScene Content Pack adds 4 more new DreamScenes for your desktop. Here is a video I created of my desktop PC running several of the new DreamScenes:

The glowing Windows Vista orb can be downloaded as a Windows Vista Ultimate wallpaper at the Windows Ultimate website. The glowing Windows Vista orb DreamScene is my favorite. The waterfall DreamScene was shown off during the demos at CES last January.

On top of the Windows DreamScene Content Pack Favorites - you can also download (and share) “dreams” over on

Windows DreamScene running with Dual Monitors

With today’s update on the status of Ultimate Extras from the Ultimate Team I thought it would be nice to highlight this cool experience I had the other day with Windows DreamScene.  I am currently running a dual-monitor setup on my main desktop PC running Windows Vista Ultimate. I decided to try out Windows DreamScene and see how well it worked with my two 24-inch Dell UltraSharp 2407FP monitors. I tried a few DreamScenes out including the Microsoft Silverlight DreamScene that you can download here.

The DreamScenes worked really nicely running on both monitors.

Windows DreamScene is currently a Technology Preview (like a beta) downloadable through Windows Update for Ultimate users. The Ultimate Team is looking to ship the final version of Windows DreamScene later this summer.
