The Live Search Maps Gadget is back!

Donavon West, whose company LiveGadgets.net was hired by Microsoft to develop the Live Search Maps Gadget originally, has announced via LiveSide that the Live Search Maps gadget is back and available for download! This awesome gadget lets you look at traffic in many different cities. I use this gadget all the time especially when traveling up to Seattle.

Donavon says work has been done “under-the-hood” so visually the gadget won’t look much different than before. He also says new cities have been added: Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, San Antonio and Toronto. New cities will automatically show up in the Live Search Maps Gadget when they are added going forward.

This gadget is a must-have for folks who commute and do quite a bit of traveling.

Uploading photos without connecting physical camera cable???

What is Eye-Fi?

eye-fi-box-smallThe Eye-Fi Card is a wireless memory card. It automatically uploads pictures from your digital camera to your PC or Mac and to your favorite photo sharing, printing, blogging or social networking site.

No cables, no waiting, no hassles.

What have we done?

I’ve been working with the awesome team at Eye-Fi (and others from Windows Live - shout out to JP Wollersheim, Federico Raggi & YuanYuan Yu) to enable user’s photos to be seamlessly transferred from their camera into their Windows Live Space. We weren’t the first to the party here as our Photo API only came out in November, but it is awesome that any of our 100 million+ Windows Live Spaces users could use this Eye-Fi service.

Why would I publish to Spaces and not some other service?

Other people (not me, I’m a super extravert) may only want to share their photos with friends and family (i.e. the people on your Windows Live Messenger Buddy List). Using Windows Live

Spammers Hijack Microsoft’s SkyDrive Service

Microsoft’s Windows Live SkyDrive (formally Windows Live Folders) launched their public beta late last year. It is an online storage service for sharing files and links… and NOW it’s also an online repository for spammers to host links to their electronic junk-mail/spam.

The service lets you save information online for personal use; share information with select people based on their Live ID, with either read or contributor permissions; and makes content available to anyone via web-links. The Live SkyDrive interface is simple and intuitive, and the service currently enforces a 1GB limit.

As of late spammers have been abusing this service by taking advantage of a loophole (of such) within the Sky Drive system itself. So how do they do it?

Spammers simply create a free SkyDrive account and upload a simple html file that redirects the unsuspecting viewer to a respiratory of pills and meds for sale (how cliché).
The html file is relatively simple, consisting of some basic JavaScript:

<html><body><script language=JavaScript>window.location.replace(
“http://top10epharms.com“)</script></body></html>

So what makes services like these worth abusing and attractive to spammers?

  • Unique urls
  • Domains relatively safe from blacklisting
  • Link longevity
  • abuse handling issues
  • Features - host *almost anything*
  • Great Price
  • Someone else pays the hosting costs

Usually spammers use

Panoramic Shots for CES using Windows Live Photo Gallery

Being able to create panoramtic stitches in Windows Live Photo Gallery is one of my favorite features ever. I deciced while at CES, I really wanted to use the feature to show off a few locations of both CES and Las Vegas. While at CES this week, I essentially lived in Windows Live Photo Gallery uploading photos to Flickr to share with you here. But here are a few panoramic shots I created.

CES at the Las Vegas Convention Center

The above is a shot of me standing at the Microsoft Product Pavilion Tent and facing the Las Vegas Convention Center. This gives you an idea of how busy CES can get (both with people, buses, taxis, etc).

My next shot is from the Microsoft Auto Showroom. They had several cars there demostrating awesome Microsoft Auto technology - such as Ford Sync.

Microsoft Auto Pavilion Panoramic Shot

And the last shot I have is actually the first panoramic shot I created while at CES. Its the view from my hotel room looking
