Internet Explorer 7 op Vensters XP en de Server 2003 van Vensters is niets plotseling van een open deur voor aanvallen. Microsoft informeerde dat het momenteel een verre kwetsbaarheid van de codeuitvoering in diverse versies van lopend Internet Explorer 7 van XP en van de Server 2003 van Vensters onderzoekt. Het bedrijf Redmond voegde toe dat de gebruikers van het Uitzicht van Vensters veilig zijn, hoewel het werkende systeem met IE7 ingebouwd door gebrek komt. SP2 van vensters XP, XP Professionele x64 Uitgave, Professionele x64 SP2 van de Uitgave; SP1 van de Server 2003 van vensters en SP2, de Uitgave en SP2 en de Server 2003 van de Server 2003 van Vensters x64 van Vensters met SP1 voor de op itanium-Gebaseerde Server 2003 van Systemen en van Vensters met SP2 voor op itanium-Gebaseerde Systemen zijn kwetsbaar allen aan het veiligheidsgebrek, op voorwaarde dat zij IE7 in werking stellen. Microsoft leverde de eerste update aan Internet Explorer 7 in een ongeveer jaar sinds de versie van browser aanvankelijk ter beschikking gesteld voor SP2 en de Server 2003 van Vensters XP van Vensters. Samen met sommige minder belangrijke tweaks aan het grafische gebruikersinterface en een opgeknapt eerste-looppaservaring en een overzicht, bovenop een herontworpen online reis en een bijgewerkte hoe-tos, brengt de nieuwe versie van Internet Explorer 7 een belangrijke wijziging aan de lijst. Both the download and the installation of IE7 build 7.0.5730.13 are no longer connected in any way to the Windows Genuine Advantage mechanism.

Prior to the update, users that wanted to access IE7 from Windows XP had to go through two stages of WGA validation. Once their operating system was labeled as genuine beyond any doubt, the users could enjoy Internet Explorer 7. And because IE7 is essentially designed as a replacement of IE6, Windows XP users had to go through the hassles of the WGA mechanism every time they wanted to deploy and install the browser, even though their operating system had already been validated and re-validated as genuine. If you perform a repair installation of Windows XP, you must first insure that you uninstall Internet Explorer 7 first. Otherwise, once the repair installation is complete, Internet Explorer 7 will no longer function. The reason this happens is because the repair installation will not restore earlier versions of the files in the Program files\Internet Explorer folder. This will make IE7 incompatible with the IE6 files that are installed in the Windows\System32 folder.

Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista is one of the aspects of the operating system applauded as a strong enough reason to justify upgrading to Microsoft’s most secure Windows platform to date. Essentially, the same browser is available on Windows XP SP2 and on Windows Server 2003; however, similarities stop when the Vista User Account Control comes into play. At a certain time, Microsoft even separated the two versions of the browser by a “+”, but that practice was dropped before the October launch. In combination with the UAC, IE7 in Vista is designed to run in Protected Mode.
