In mid July, concomitantly with the pre-beta release of Vista SP1, Microsoft also delivered a limited preview of XP SP3, confirming that the service pack was right on track for general availability in the first half of 2008. With Windows Vista and Windows XP 2008, formerly codenamed Longhorn, pushed to the foreground, the next development milestone for XP SP3 shipped after the first beta for Vista SP1 and the Release Candidate 0 of Microsoft’s last 32-bit server operating system. The late availability date for XP SP3, in comparison with the synchronized releases for Vista SP1 and Windows Server is a clear indication that the operating system

The XP alternative for Vista PCs

While Microsoft is still pushing Vista hard, the company is quietly allowing PC makers to offer a “downgrade” option to buyers that get machines with the new operating system but want to switch to Windows XP.

he program applies only to Windows VistaBusiness and Ultimate versions, and it is up to PC makers to decide how, if at all, they want to make XP available. Fujitsu has been among the most aggressive, starting last month to include an XP disc in the box with its laptops and tablets.

“That’s going to help out small- and medium-size businesses,” Fujitsu marketing manager Brandon Farris told CNET News.com.

Hewlett-Packard also started a program in August for many of its business models. “For business desktops, workstations and select business notebooks and tablet PCs, customers can configure their systems to include the XP Pro restore disc for little or no charge,” HP spokeswoman Tiffany Smith said in an e-mail. She said it was too soon to gauge how high customer interest has been. “Since we’ve only been offering (it) for about a month, we don’t really have anything to share on demand.”

A Microsoft representative confirmed there were changes made over…

Microsoft: Windows XP Is Obsolete, Move to Vista Now!

Is Windows Vista really superior to all predecessor Windows operating systems? Well Microsoft is beating the old drum of Vista as the most secure Windows platform available since the introduction of the operating system.

But while end users would be inclined to choose another version of Windows as the top dog when it comes down to reliability, performance, driver compatibility and application support, Microsoft can only point to Windows Vista. And in the wake of announcements concerning the availability and contents of the first service pack for the operating system, Microsoft is pouring a consistent amount of efforts into convincing users, be them in the home or the corporate environments, to upgrade/migrate to Vista as soon as possible.

“When it comes to deploying a new OS (whether at the Data Centers or for the end users consumption) the IT Pros tend to take a more cautious ‘wait and see approach’. So the question begs, why should the new operating system from the software giant get any better treatment, is Windows Vista any better than its predecessors such as Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, XP, in simple words the answer is a bold and resounding “HELL

Microsoft: Windows Vista vs. Windows XP – Definitely Vista!

As far as Microsoft is concerned there is only one choice possible in terms of desktop clients. But Windows Vista is also the clear option over Windows XP when it comes down to the Redmond company’s preferred operating system for mobile PCs.

One of the most important aspects of large scale deployments of operating systems is related to costs. But of course that the licenses necessary to deploy the platform are merely the initial part of the financial resources associated with the deployment and management processes, following the installation. And in this context, it all comes down to the Total Cost of Ownership.

Wipro Technologies and GCR Custom Research performed a Microsoft commissioned survey on Mobile PC Total Cost of Ownership, contrasting Windows Vista to Windows XP. Microsoft has applauded Vista as a beneficial factor when introduced into a corporate infrastructure and the “Reducing TCO with Windows Vista - Quantified Savings for Mobile PCs” survey does nothing more than to recommend the latest operating system from the Redmond company as a panacea for reducing TCO.

“Based on in-depth surveys performed for this paper, we identified three sources that reduce the TCO for mobile PCs: Windows

Make your Vista’s admin account acts like in XP, Always in full control

First let me start by saying that one of the main features of Windows Vista is the new user accounts security enhancements, but sometimes, defaults don’t meet everyone’s taste when it comes to how we deal with our PCs. I for one, always used full administrator accounts since I first knew what a Windows user account is, and never been hit by a virus/spyware/crap, using common sense and updated AV software, so I don’t want to give permissions to myself or face strange error messages every time I do a simple task on my computer.

We know UAC feature in Windows Vista, and we all know how to disable it, this is not the purpose of this thread, because even after you disable UAC, you’ll have other prompts about folder/file permissions errors sometimes (I faced it in strange, unexpected occasions, like deleting an empty folder for a program left by the uninstaller), or you’ll need to right click and select “Run as Administrator” for most applications to work/install correctly.

That’s because Microsoft made the administrators accounts (in local administrators group) run as standard users, unless we give permissions for every and each administrative tasks, with a little difference…
