For unknown reasons Bitfender was not switched on at the time that happened. For me it has worked out quite differently. I tried to run MSCONFIG and Microsoft responded that I had to renew my XP license since severe modifications of my computer system had be introduced. However I did not do a thing to the hardware. After following the microsoft procedure via a phone call Windows was back in a clean shape and much faster to start as before. Running Spy Bot and Bitdefender did reveal that Antivir2008 had vanished. May be an altenative for bad cases. My computer did receive Antivir.
