Windows 7 Build 6519.winmain.071220-1525 Review

Installation revealed the EULA page, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/eula.aspx

Installation had not changed much only thing you’ll notice upon completion of installation, rating system is gone, now there are no advertising placards, no loud slogans. Just a report on how component equipment is checked.

Installation finished, let’s look at version first;

During system boots we now see full-screen animated graphics. A small strip runs in the bottom of the screen, sparkling asterisks.
One new thing I really liked was the updated display of icons hidden in the system tray;
It’s now also possible to change the width of the search box in Explorer. Simple change but still new and someone probably missed that option.
In the system page we see that graphics are updated with a fresh sky-blue appearance;
Let’s take a look at the start menu, there is now an option to pin elements directly without having to right click and select Pin to Start Menu;
When you do a search, it occupies the entire surface of the Start Menu instead of just the left colum;
The option to select the classic start menu is removed;
The design has been reworked throughout the Control Panel. Removed the cumbersome and unnecessary sidebar. Now everything is neat and easy.
Right-click the desktop and you see the new Display option that gives access to the updated DPI applet;
Feedback Button, as before, is available on the desktop. And it has also received a brush up.
In Control Panel, you will find several new elements. Among them Device Center. Here is the connected equipment, but so far that is where the Device Center ends. (Not much shown since it’s on a VMware machine)
New Recovery Center justifies its name - it is designed to collect the entire functional recovery system together. It is a normal functional rollback system, and something we can call point in time restore;
Wipe and Reload implies the full restoration of the system as a primary condition. This is possible through the Complete PC Backup or a full return to the condition where it was purchased.
The system has a new applet, uniting the entire functionality associated with the programs. Here you see all: this is a menu of “Start”, and cross-references to delete programs or individual components of the system. It also represented gadgets, games, in other words - this is a new center of all Windows 7 applications.
From the Network and Sharing Center, you can get access to new applets HomeGroup and Sharing;
The applet contains the basic setup of various options, like opportunities for detecting networks, sharing files and folders, and even network printing is now available on the link Advanced sharing settings.
Windows Sidebar changed much. It is still the same, but its integration has changed. It seems Microsoft is now trying to minimize the interference of the sidebar. The gadgets appear as if they are hanging in the air on the desktop. Sidebar lost its icons in the tray, management tools on top is removed. But the gadgets are still attached by the invisible sidebar, remaining embodied in their place.
There are no separate window adding gadgets. If you right-click the desktop, you’ll see two items - Add Gadgets and Hide Gadgets (or Show Gadgets, gadgets that’s already hidden). Hiding gadgets do not turn off Sidebar, but only hides it, as a matter of adding a new item applet you do that from All Programs, as shown above.
Windows PowerShell is back; this was planned for Vista but was dropped;
In addition the system also has a built-in XPS Viewer. And here there is no news; the program has long been available as a separate package. It is not built into Vista; there it’s implemented only as a XPS viewer within a browser. Now the full version XPS Viewer is integrated into Windows.
In the Media Center purely cosmetic amendments. Overall same design has remained unchanged.
In Windows Media Player there are some changes
In the lower part has a pair of new icons appeared that give access to elected and to the various layouts of the player. Player mode is somewhat new - miniature layout without superfluous functions;
An updated Windows calculator! Now it displays two lines, one introduces the current figure and in the line above previous figure;
New layouts, in addition to the canonical “normal” and “engineering”, there is added two new ones.
Programmer mode is intended for those who often deals with different systems of numbers - makes it easy to transfer from one system to another.
and here is the other one - Statistics;
Paint is upgraded with a “ruler”;
Among the programs something called TS Workspace is listed - connect to the TS Feed. I have no idea what this is, but probably a new feature in development;
Internet Explorer 7 also renewed with 6519 version number, although no new functionality is added.
This is all I have for now…

Looks good, except no option for Classic Start Menu. Not a good move, because not everyone likes the new menu, including me.
