Windows 7 : Rearm and Extend Windows 7 Activation Grace Period to 120 Days

You an install Windows 7 without any product key for free usage of 30 days as evaluation period. During the 30-day activation free grace period, user does not need to activate Windows 7, and can use Windows 7 of any edition in full functionality.

Windows 7 also equip with a secret ‘rearm’ key in order to reset the free 30-day evaluation period limitation, which allows user to extend the activation-free usage or evaluation expiry date of Windows 7 for another 30 days legally.

By using the ‘rearm’ hack, user can reset and extend the activation grace period (aka evaluation trial period) for up to 3 times, effectively running Windows 7 without product key without activation for up to 120 days, or 4 months. The trick is, the rearm hack must be done only when the 30 days trial period or activation grace period is about to expire.

Follow these steps to reset and extend activation grace period from 30 days to 120 days in Windows 7:
  1. Install Windows 7 without any product activation key.
  2. After installation is completed, use the Windows 7 for 30 days and wait for the remaining days left to activate Windows counting down to 0, or almost zero.
  3. When the activation grace period (or evaluation trial period) is almost expired or ended, log on to Windows 7 desktop, and open a Command Prompt window (i.e. type Cmd in Start Search and hit Enter).
  4. Type any of the following commands into the command prompt, and then hit Enter: sysprep /generalize
    slmgr.vbs –rearm
    rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows
    slmgr /rearm
  5. Reboot Windows 7 to enjoy another 30 days of free usage without worrying about activation nor even need to crack Windows 7.
  6. When the activation grace period countdown timer almost running down to 0 again, repeat the ‘rearm’ trick to enjoy another 30 days of Windows 7 for free. User can run the rearm command for maximum of 3 times.

If you’re one of those people who reinstall the PC’s OS more often than most people, this trick could allow you to use Windows 7 for free, without any third party activation hacks, indefinitely. You’d just have to reinstall the OS every 4 months. It beats paying for a Windows license if you ask me.

@Earl

lol…I’m actually one of those people that does reinstall OS’s VERY often, but I plan on buying a license since I finished building this rig in May, and I did not want to buy Vista with 7 around the corner. So, I installed, a beta, the RC, and now am using the RTM waiting to get an official license (pre-ordered). I could choose to not buy one like you said, but after using it for a few months…I have to say that it is really worth it. The amount of testers MS had this time getting feed back was the best decision they’ve made in a long time. lol…I know I sound like a fanboy, but I am not. I’ve used Macs and I have even run Linux for long periods of time. I’m buying since I think they did a good job, and I will be using it often since I think I will settle with this setup. I can just build a Linux box to play with on the side without jeopardizing anything. I would dual boot, but I’m running a crossfire config for gaming on this badboy :)

Well the below tricks do not work on my Windows 7. Here is what happens when I try each in a DOS box.

sysprep /generalize
This does not work. Tried it from c:\ c:\windows and from system32

slmgr.vbs –rearm
This produces four pop up boxes indicating the syntax is wrong. \

rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindow
slmgr /rearm

Hmmm, this does absolutely nothing. Should I reboot? Well, I will now and see what happens….

I don’t know about the sysprep command, but the slmgr one works for sure. What’s not stated in the tutorial is that it requires elevated privileges to work. You can’ t just type in cmd and run from there. Go to Accessories>right-click on Command Prompt > Run as Administrator.
Then get a C: prompt and run the command. Works fine.
