Had to uninstall MacFee software that came pre-installed on laptop. It worked much better after that, but now I need to find AV software that works well on Vista SP1. I'm hesitant to upgrade to SP2. Any thoughts about AV software and installing SP2? Thanks

I have new out of the box Inspiron 1525, wireless web page download was useless. Tried option 1 which increased performance dramatically but still not acceptable enough for a new system. Will probably return system. Spent 1.5 hours trying to speak with technician tonight. Gave up after 90 minutes of wait time.

I have a new Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Vista Home Premium SP1, and out of the box it had difficulty connection to the internet through my wireless home network, even thoough the wireless card showed a strong connection to the router and a strong signal.

Most of the time, it would take forever for the internet connection to be established, and most of the time I had to manually press the "diagnose the internet connection" button over and over to get it to connect a bit faster.

I disabled IPv6 per the instructions in Option 1. My internet connection is now instant upon bootup, just like my Windowes XPS computers are! This solution works, and every Dell technician and Microsoft technician should review this and try this solution with their clients!

Thank you much for this idea. It needs to be shared very widely.

I'm going bonkers with this failing internet connection. Strange thing is... i do not remember these problems occurring the moment i started using Vista. Got my Vista system last december, in my memory, problems started only in may .
Nevertheless... i will try and see what happens. If this fails too, as a last resort, i will re-install Vista.

Thanks for this. I have a DELL XPS 410 and had the same problems after upgrading to VISTA SP1 so I tried your solution and it works! I have had to do so many system restores and reinstalls with Vista I thought the system had corrupted itself, but it turns out to be a bug. Is it isolated to just DELL systems?
